PERIODICAL: Tr. Gor'kovsk. in-ta inzh. vod.. transp.- (Transactions of the
Gor'kiy Institute of Water -Transportation Engineers), 1955, Nr 13, pp 53-94
ABSTRACT: Relative efficiencies are considered of gas-turbine installations
where the compressor is driven by the turbine shaft; the factors influencing
the relative -efficiency value are analyzed. An inference is drawn that a gas-
turbine installation, even in the case of -an aerodynamically and mechanically
perfect turbine and compressor, would have a very low mechanical efficiency
because of low utilization of the effective power developed by the turbine. The
author suggests a method for determining efficiency of a gas-turbine installa-
tion that has a conventional steam electric -station scheme, i. e. , its air com-
pressor and gas compressor or fuel pump aze driven by auxiliary electric
motors. Aaaalyzing various schemes of gas-turbine installations in terms of

absolute efficiency and using is-diagrams for air and combustion products, the
author comes to these conclusions. (1) absolute effective efficiency of a gag-
turbine inigtallation with regeneration is determined by the relation between the
growing thermal efficiency and diminishing relative efficiency with an increase
in regeneration; (2) introduction of intermediate cooling does rot, by and
large, result in a higher efficiency of the installation; rather, it makes the in-
stallation more complicated. On the banis of investigation of various schemes,
the inference is drawn that turbine efficiency plays a greater role than compres-
sor efficiemcy.

ABSTRACIT: An analysis of various methods for calculating the wetted portion
of a turbine. The Author recommends that the real flow be replaced
by ah equivalent flow having the same discharge rate as the real
flow and exerting the same force on the elements of the turbine
wheel, whereupon the basic problems are solved according to
Eulerian theory, By develaping this method, the A. resolves
problems pertaining to the design of new machines or to the
operational analysis of units already built and in use. It is shown
that, with the application of dependable experimental data, the
calculations made according to the Eulerian theory lead to the
same results as those performed according to Zhukovskiy's

Tests were carried out with grates possessing a 1, 2, 3 and
4 percent useful section. The aerodynamic resistance of The
grate was of decisive importance.' The test results led to
the following conclusions: A 2 to 3 percent useful section
of the grate area for the combustion of oil shale coke in
a furnace with fluidized solids ist most rational, sinoe at
this value the aerodynamic resistance of the grate is unim-

ABSTRACT-, In the production of thermo-sonsitive resistances for the
production of aemi-conductorsi,- It is frequently necessary to
determine the content of coppOr and manganese in the hydration
mlixture and Jn. the-salts -of these- metals, -A method was-required
for the dotorminat-ion of oopper and manganose in thoir aimulta-
neous presenaeg without using potassium cyanide. It was founl
that copper can be determined in the presence of manganese by
means of trilon B beside murexide in the acetate (PH;~sW~ as
well as bora+eb-affe:c t-VHV~W8*5), with a oolor change occurr-ing
from orange to red. Manganese can only be titrated from an
acetate buffer with trilon B and murexide after the addition of
a borate-ammoniacal buffer mixturee The method described
consists of a titrationof copper and trilon B from the acetate
