TITLE: Preparation and properties of aqueous suspensions of vulcar--
ized natural aad synthetic rubber

TEXT: The purpose of this study-waa to investiga te the regeneration of used
waste rubber by dispersion in aqueous medium. The-authors applied the method
devised by B. A. Dogadkin and D. M. Pevzner (Ref- 4: 'Author's certificute-
nc. 29973, 30/IV 1933), in which an oleophilic emulsifier insoluble in mater
( atty acid, resinic acid), and then gradually a saponifier (alkali) are
aaded to the hydrocarbon (rubber, plastic, vulcanizate). The reclaimed
product is obtained by electrolytic coagulation from'the aqueous suspension.
-----The following was studied in the present paper: 1) The effecto of the
e~u1si:a#rs--o-1eic_acid, colophony, P-naphthalene sulfonic Acid, P-di-
naphthyl-ymethane sul-f_oi~ ~cd-cid-b_d_tke!ir sodium salts. The optimum dose Vag
5-10% of the rubber weight. The authoi~e-d~~t-ermined-the-RaFticle size by

8) the behavior of various types of rubber with highly active carbon black
as filler was tested on HK (4K, natural rubber); CKH (SKI, synthetic cis-
polyisoprene rubber)l CKC-3oAPM (SKS-30ARM, divinyl styrene rubber), and
CKS (SKB, sodium butadiene rubber). Two groups of samrles were uoed for the
purpose: 1) samples prepared according to industrial formulas for tire
rubber, 2) samples prepared according to a unified formula so that they
differed only in the polymer. Table 3 prosents the results. The particle
radius was found to depend less on the type of polymer than on the density
of the vulcanization network. However, the properties of the reclaimed
products obtained by dispersion differ in the individual polymers. The
authors will later report on this subject. It is mentioned that the disper-
sion method described has been used in 1938 at the zavod (plant) "Krasnyy
treugollnik" for the regeneration of used rubber. From 1941 onward, this
method has not been apl;lied any longer. Mention is made of P. F. Koshe'Lev
and I. A. Tartakovskiy. There are 7 figures, 3tables, and 7 Soviet-bloc
references.

TEXT- A method has been developed for the production of foam rubber articles
laith partial replacement of the latex by aqueous dispersions of old rubber or
waste products from foam rubber production. The technique of old rubber dispersion
was developed a,,; the ' HKIVEMi (NIMP), whereby the aqueous dispersion of the rub-
ber is a polydispersed colloidal system. Dispersions prepared with colophony as
the disperser and 3% aqueous solution of NaOH, as the soaping asent, were used In
-developing the produ6tion riethod of the latex mix.for the foam rubber articles.

mercaptobenzothiazol, zinc oxide), The quantity of vulcanizing agenta in tho
nilxeo was calculated adcortling to the rubbor substance of tVe latex. They also
contained a gelatinizing solution (10 -'20% solution of ammonium chloride, IQ%
zolution of ammonia and triethanqlamine)..-The obtained articles met the commer-
cial requirements. The cutting-out proQ66s caused no change in,the physico-
nechanical propertins of the foam rubber articles. The latter retain their color
when using diEpersions produced from foam rubber Waste products, It is concludeC.
chat by replacing 20 - 30% of the synthetic and natural i.atex with aqueous dispci-
zions of rubber, the quality of the foam rubber produced by the foaming method..
does not drop. According to preliminary calculations, the use of aqueou.,i dis-
'perslons of rubber in the production of foam rubber articles should offer C.'on-

ABSTRACT: Butadiene polymerization has been studied using diethyl aluminum
chloride and rhodium triacetyl aretonate as the catalytic system in a water-free
medium. The resulting polybuta'diene has an above-98% 1. 4-trans structure.
Polymerization takes plac'(~ withi'a ratio of A I: Rh > 3. The optimum ratio
Al:Rh is 15. Conversion, depends on the concentration of the catalytic components
and on temperature. No inhibition period has been observed. The limiting vis--

Abstract: The quantitatiye theory of the growth of latent image (luring
interrupted illumination of the photographic emulsion, formu-
lated preyiously (Cas. pro. pestoy. matenuit. a fys., 1!)47, 7c,
161), refined in connection with the results obtained by Meyklyar
(zh eksperim i theo fiziki, 1951, 21, No 1, 42) on the relaxation
of photoconductiyity in AgBr crystals. Taking into ac,:ount the

struct a mathematical theory of three photographic- effects)
based on the sequence of action of two exposures: sensitization
by prior short-duration exposure and desensitization by prior
action of x-rays (Villard effect) or by short-duration ex-
posure 1"Kloiden effect). The formulas obtained are in good
qualitative agreement with experiment, provided one retains
in the initial formulas the terms that take into account the
time delay of the electronic processes., which continue during
