ABSTRACT: The author presents the results of laboratory investigations, and
empirical relationships based upon them, concerning a series of
questions of the hydraulics of drops in trapvzoidal channels. The
following are examined: 1) The distriibution of velocities and pres-
sure in the inlet portion of the drop, 2) the free-aurface profile ir~-
the head-water and tail-water channel port: 'ons, :1) the depths a,
the brink of the drop, 4) the distance upstrearn from the brink of
the drop at which the depth equals the critical depth, 5) the qukili-
tative picture of the free outfall, 6) the value of the coefficient
~ , 7) the lengths of the hydraulic jump with a vertically notched
and a sloping drop, and 8) the respective depths in the tail water.

ined based on the results of experimental data. onc hundred diodes about ono month old were
used for the bwootiption. The direct voltage drop acroso the diode was raeasured at Wmpera-
tures of 24 0 20, and (one month after the first nicasuremetit) 60C. The roaults at 24C j given
in the form of a Ustogramo Indicate that the distribution of the diodom with respect to tite direct
voltage drop was close to a logarithmically normal distribution. The currotit through tile test,:-
diode was 240 ma, the maximum permissible for this type diode being 300.,ma. The (mcperltnen
tal data confirmed the logaxithmically normal distribution of D226 diodes as a fimtlom

TEXT: The concept of the resulting range characteris';1c in sur.-
veyed space is introduced for radar antennas surveying in vertiCaal
plane; this characteristic is the envelope of a famil:j of charac-
teristics with the antenna inclination angle as parameter. Starting
from this characteristic it is possible to determine the range ra-
dius d of theradar station taking into account ground reflection,
if the range of the station is known relatively to a given target
in free space.-Equation for d is derived. A method for, designing
the characteristic x is shown; this permits avoiding the lose of '
some lobes. An example is given of the design of the ckkaracteristic
for an antenna with a 100 beam width between half-power points and

The Determination of Moisture Content in FirL--lhad
Products and Intermediates by a Modified K. Fis--her
Procedure.
W101 I Gaz Cukrown, 61, No 5, 150-154 (1959)
ABSTRACT A method is described for the determination of
moisture content in white Gugar, raw sursx, molan-
soa, coke, charcokl, limestone, dry and pressed
pressings, and in auger beet seads. The procedural
calls for the preliminary distillation of mo-41stiire
with eethanoll followed by titration. Thf! results
from the analysis by the now method are i:,~mpared
with the results fiom moisture determinatLons by
drying and the differences observed are Atithin
practically tolerable limits, The new mtthod
requires less time.

Abstract The effect of the solids content of milk serum on the vis-
cosity, boiling point increase, and coefficient ofthermal
conductivity has been investigated. The experiments bave
confirmed the dependence of the increase in the boiling
point on the thic~mess of the deposit on the heating sur-
faces. It has been established that after the coagulation
of 1,600 litres of serum per m2 of heating surface, a four-
fold reduction in the heat conductivity is observed. Strong
