ABSTRLOTt The authors point out, that the "GOST11-standards "1435-54",
"5950-5111 and "5952-51" for rolled tool steel muet be
amended. Additional requirements for micro-structure are
needed, and allowable defects must be clearly defined.
Metallographic analysis has shown, that one half of the re-
jects in the hardening of cutting tools made of the steel
"UBA" and '1UI0A" were caused by cracks as a re3Ult Of a
large quantity of non-metallic additives. In the authors
opinion, conditions concerning the lieted defects of the
"GOST 801-47"-standard for ball bearing steel, thould be
extended to tool ateelp until such time an the tool ateel
standards can be revined.

authors.first-review some.recent work at EL number of
these laboratories. Work done at the Sverdlovsk Central.
Telegraph Office by A. G. Vasilevskiy, A. D. Rivkina and
L. P. Mitrofanova on group servicing of telegraph facili.-
ties (see 'IV(,stnik svyazi", 1959, Nr 5), which was found
to increase productivity of labor of the telegraphists
by 20%, is mcntioned. Automation of transit telephone
call procossing is discussed: Workers at the Leningrad
inter-city tclephone station WfS) have dc.-veloped a pro..

acoustical telegraph apparatus, and work at the labora-
tory of the Riabarovsk MTS on improving operational sta-
bility of the acoustical telegraph channels in the MYe-3
eight-chaninal system. Improvements.irt.the OKS apparatus
were made at the laboratory of the Saratov MTS; the re-
ceiver and tone generator were returned to a frequency
.of 2,100 cps. Last year, it is stated, production lab-
oratory developments were widely introduced at HTS and
telegraph off:~.ces in the RSFSR: pneumatic "post" systems,
developad by the laboratories of the Rosta-;r and Saratov
MTSs, for transmission of order blanks; a inethod of ser-
vicing telegraphic facilities without tran;3mission con-
trol, developc:d at the laboratory of the :~'Jeningrad Cer--
tral -Telegraph Office, which. freed up to 60 ST-35 appa-
ratuses. The authors criticize several p:roduction lab-
oratories. for lack of attention,. to - their proper func-

the area between the rivers Klaratal and Aksu (Ka-

com-mon natural and economic features: 1) the alluvial
river district, which comprises the left-bank flood-

for equipment in 19::8. The work of the LTU imFroved the
function of the telephone and telegrarh lines in the RSFSR,
but the results are not yet fully satisfactory. The amount
of darmages occurring on communication lines wFs reduced each
year as well as the time reriuired for repairine d9mages.
Yet, the absolu-;e number of interruntions and their duraticn
is still very h`.gh. The Pveraee duration of line inter-
ruptions was 4.7i2 hours durinC the first six months of 1955.
The RSFSR Ministry of CommonicAtions organized several
meetings of responsible supervisors concerninp the repair
Card 112 and maintenance of comr-unirstion lines within the RSFSR.
