ABSTRACT: An increased content of silicon dioxide (more than 10%)
in aluminous cement considerably lowers its mechanical
strength. This is explained by the formation of a tertiary
compound (Ca 1Al Sio 7) in the aluminous ceme-vit (1) LtariaZ
the buxmiii6 'Oro;ess. In their invest igations concerning
the preparation of quick-laardening binders the properties
of the fellowing aluminous component raw materials were
studied: anorthositet rephelinic syenite, alLmitised clay
and cinders carboneceovs shale. Lime-travertin was used
as lime component. Anort110.131te was shown to be the most
suitable of the above raw materials. rable 1 gives the

hardening aluminabelite ceme.-ats can be produced from
anorthosite and limOi-travertin by burning the mixture at
1100 C'. The produced cements do not'reveal ,)LnomcO.ous
properties: they have only relatively lowered activity,
dependent on the structure of' the clinker. 3elite is the
maiin component (together with calcium alumirjite) of cw-erit
with reLard to the mine-ralogical otruotiaxe of thia latter.
Me-charucteristic propertie.9 of the produced cements are
not rest 'rioted to the speed o IL hardeniN; during the f irst
72 hours. A steady increase of strengtht especially
during the 3rd - 6th month ca-ri be obsen,ed wLich is due to
the presence oJ7 belite (Diazz"m 3). Curves are E;iven of
the increase in strength of cement samples testet. for com-
pression. These are cha:?acteristic for the whole --ange
of tested cements. Table, 2 gives the permissible varia-
tion in mechanical streN,,th of' tested samples of on~-- group
of cements. A mi crop hot ograph Of a section of a clinker
(with added fluorspar) is; included. (Fig.2).

SOURCE: Tavetnyye metally, no. 12, 1966, 88-89
TOPIC TAGS: metal cladding, niobium clad steel, clad steel production
ABSTRACT:
Niobiun-clad steel sheets were produced by rolling packs considting of a
St. 3 steel plate (9-12 mm thick) and a VE-2 niobium sheet (2 = thick)
in a vacuum (4-10-5 mm Hg) mill equipped with steel rclls, 166 mm.in
diamatoar. at 900-1200C with per, pass reductions of 10-40%. The width of
packs was 50 mm and the length was .140 cm. 'It was fouad that the strength of
the bpad between the clad and base metals increased with increasing rolling
temperature. The shear strength was 100 Yr./m2 (10 kg/um2) after 30Z redu,c-
tion ai: 900-1000C. and after the same reductica at 11C0-1200 it was
210-2.30 Ma/m2 (21-23 kg/F~). Tha 'bond sitrength-alfic increased with

250 Mtjm2 (25 kg/MM7-). However, high per pa5a reduction leads to a non-
