Results are reported on the atudy of topography of the spinal root of the sensory
portion of the trigeminal nerve in human embryos, foetuoes, children, adults,
and some laboratory animala. The spinal root of the animals examined is nia rkc(j-
ly better developed than In humans, which fact the author considers to be of great
functional significance. In newborn Infants the root terminates at the level of the
lower margin of the third cervical segment, and in adults at the level ofthe second

ABSTRACT.- The state of the irradiated walls of TEG and TEP cavity-receptors and the
changes in the state of the radiant energy input to the receptors when displaced rcla-
tively to the focal position are discussed. Past work on the optical and energy de-
sign of solar-energy reflectors has been mainly concerned with calculating the energy
distribution at the focal plane. The author's aim in the present article is to con-
struct a mathematical procedure for determining the characteristics of the energy
field at each of its points, which would be the basis of solving important practical
problems in the field. The principal characteristics of the radiation field are the
radiation vector, which defines the magnitude and direction of the radiation energy

flux at each point of the field, and the energy density per volwne, which characterizel
;the general saturation of the space with radiant energy at the point in question. For

.the case of a paraboloid reflector the author derives the equations of the radiation

ABSTRACT: The article presents a new -metbod for calculation and
measurement of the distribution of ra,aiation failing on the wells of a
volumetric receiver placed near the focal point of a parabolic
concentrator. Experimental results are worked up for application to
bollow cylindrical receivers, with the aim of optimizing t'heir thermal
operating condiiions. The article first considers mathematically the
relation between the axial and radial fluxcs and the structure of the
radiation field, This analysis is illustrated by a figure. In the
experimental section of the article, a table gives the basic dimensions

ABSTRACT: The author deals with the problem of illusory sensations
during flights in jet aircraft under complicated meteo-
rological conditions. The solution of this problem will
help to improve flight training and to guarantee the
pilot's safety. The article contains data obtained by
special examinations to find out the formation mechanism
of illu, sory appearances during the flight and their
effect on the pilot. It has been ascertained that illu-
sory flight sensations often cause serious disturbances
in piloting (loss of course, incapability of following

the altitude required and even complete loss of
orientation in space). Pilots stated that they were not
able to mentally grasp the readings of instruments.

N.A, Mo'lodukho-Lozinskiy proved this by examining
pilots, Cases of illusory flight sensation occur
more frequently in the initial poriod of flight
training under complicated flight conditions. Later
the frequency and severity of the sensation diminished,
In order to determine the causes of the above-mentioned
appearances, the effqot of comp1toated flight condi-
tions on the excitability of the vestibular analyzer
has been studied, The results showed, that after
3-18 flightel the duration of feeling of rotating
in a reverse direction diminished or increased by 1
to 5 seconds/ as compared with the initial values.

Conditions
Taking into consideration the regular character of these
appearances, the author concluded that the development
of illusory sensations is in close dependence on the
steadiness of the acquired conditioned reflex connec-
tions. He thinks that improved flight training under
difficult flight conditions is the most important
measure against illusory sensations. The author recom-
mends A.P. Popov's method of simultaneous training
"in the open air ELnd under protecting hood". M.K.
Kozhenkov, V.A. Popov, and A.M. Pikovskiy suggested
introducing semi-atutomatic opening of blinds of the
protecting hood. Based on his observations and those
of other physiCialLS, the author is convinced, that such
illusory flight sensations cease due to improved flight
traftng.
