TITM: Relaxation peaks of damping in plastically deformednolylbdenwa and niobiul;W
single irystal
SOURCES Fizika tve,rdogo telap v. 8, no. 8y 19669 2513-2514
TOPIC TAGS1 molybdenum, niobium, ultrasound, acoustic damping, plastic deformation
AWTRAC1': The torqierature dependence of damping of ultrasound in previously defcl:med
and annoaled molybdenum and n:Lobium single crystals in the 5-30 ~b frequency rane;13
was studied (see Fig. I and 2) and the activation energy of the relaxation peaks was
determined. The fact that the tomperature of the damping peak shifts toward higber
temperatures w-Ith rising frequency indicates the relaxational nature of the peak..'
The temperature of the relaxw~ion peak at 5, 10 and 30 Fie is respectively 173, V13
and 203"K in deforried molybdenum and 253p 269 and 298q in defomed niobium. Heuting
at 1100*C for 6 hr in the case of Mo and 4 hr with furnace cooling in.the case oJ!' Nb
caused the damping peak to disappear. The activation efiergy 1s'0.19 eV for 1,16 ani
0.27 eV for Nb. The frequenay factor is respectively 1012 and 5.6 x ioll sac-10
