TEM The nuolear-aotive andelectron-photon component of high-energy
cosmic radiation were studied to obtain additional data on the nature of

nuclear interaction at energies 0 ev. The observations were made in
1959 on the Pamir. The detector consists& of four rows of ionization
ohambers between which ware placed lead and(oarbon, and over which were
10 hodoxcope groups containing 12-oountere 330 am each). Besides, two
cylindrical chambers were placed at a distance of 7 m from the middle of
this setup, a hodoscopio point and detector of the energy density of the

qleotron-photon component were at a distance of 18 m from the center
and served to study the fluctuations of the part iole flux. If the axis
of the extensive atmospheric shower hits the recording area of the
detector, the number of partioles in the shower may be determined from the
formula N 1000 Q, 2where Q is the effective particle density of the
particle f:ux per m . Assuming that in every event, nucleons and pions
impart 1/3 o:f their energy tothe now resulting pions, the energy of the
