at the lab directed by Zdrodovskiy have shomi that therapeutic aleep.,drug-produced,
suppresses the following reactions in rabbithi inflammation and necrosis due to intra-
cutaneous injection of diphtheria or staphilococei toxin and turpentine; irritations due to
the action of bacteria; allergic reactions to horse serum; and hemorrhagic allergy pro-
duced by bacteria. These effects are due to the fact sleep reduces the production of
agglutinins tind antAto',dns 2-3 times or more,, but only after primary imunization or
first reinoculation. After a number of rainaculations, the immunological reactions
become stable and sleep has no effect. Alno,, sleep has no effect on generalized infections
(e.g., a lethal ingection with virulent pneumococci),, only on local reactions.

Infection with Q fever was reported from various latitudes of European and Asiatic
Soviet -Union. It was found in man, domestic animals and In ticks. The clinical
course of the disease is extremely variable and may present hif luenza -like i.;yndremie,
septic type, bronchopneumonic, chronic -type with relapse,, and nervous forM.S.
The author stresses the importance of laboratory diagnosis, animal inoculation and
complement-fixation test with specific rickettsial antigen; the allergic sMn test
with killed rickettsiae is also recommended. Treatment with Soviet-made biomy(An
was as efficient as with chlortetracyc line and oxytetracy.c line. In accordance with
Government regulations hospitalization and isolation of Q-fev(-.L- cases is computsovy.

summarizes a lecture on the cytophysiologlcal mechanisms of immunogenesis and its
neurohumoral regulation, which he presented at the Ninth International Congress on
YAcrobiolo . His theoxy of immunogenesia encompaases pertinent data of physiology,
modern protein, biochemistry genetics 'aad-eadocrinology, and considers the inter-
action of the mechanisms of the entire~Zrganism. Experiments support his proposal
that the hypothalamo-hypophyso-adrenocortlex must regulate-m!AboWormation.
Immunological inertia, which-develops after revaccinatim.at the height of immunolog?-
ical reactivity, was observed in experiments. Data confirm the dependence of immuno-
genesis *on the general physiologIcal mechanisms of.stimulatory and inhibitory pro-
cesses. The work of V. Efroimson, M.-Hirenberg, and Fogel' in genetics, and Jacob
and Monod's system of intracellular regulation of protein-syntbesis processes are
