TITLE: The design of negative-feed-back amplidynes made of transformer steel (0 raschete magnitnykh usiliteley a vnutrenney obratnoy avyazlyu, vypolnennykh iz trans- formatornoy stali). PERIODICAL; Vestnik Blektropromyehlennoati, Nr,ll, 1958, pp-1-4 (USSR) ABSTRACT: A method has been proposed for designing amplidynes with internal negative-feed-baek that is based on representing the core material by an idealised characteristic. If the usual relationships are applied when the amplidyne core is made of transformer steel, determinations of the character- istics become inaccurate. Such errors are reduced when the circuit with magnetic amplifier and active load is represented by the equation of an ellipse. This article is concerned with amplidynes having internal negative- feed-back and cores mede of transformer steel. The corresponding circult:supplying a load with rectified Card 1/4 current is given in Fi[;~I. The special operating features SQV/.110-58--11-1/28 The Design of 'Regative-feed-back Aiiiplidynes Made of Transformer Steel. of this amplidyne are revealod in Fig.2, which gives current and voltage oscillograms during half-wave rectification for two different circults; Fig."3a pertains to a Goreloss mutual induction coil and Fig.2b to the circuit of Fig.! in which the amplidyne, core is made of steel grade F,,3-10. The current and voltaE;o wave-forms are discussed and expressions are derived for the currents in the tV.-a. windings and in the load. S.m.f. equations are then derived. From these, equation (6) is obtained which expresses the B-H relationship in the form of an ellipse with its centre at the origin of the coordinates. Fig.3 shows B-H curves with simultaneous msgroatisation. of the stool by half-mave and direct current. The dotted curve corresponds to a~c* magnetisation. By oombining the ellipse of equation ( ) and the characteristics in Fig.3, the required charac- teristie of the magnetic amplifier is readily obtained. An expression is-derived for the current form-factor. Characteristics obtained wit-h various values of resistance in the control circuit are plotted in Fig,,4. With low Card 2/4 values of load resistanoe, voltage-drop in the load is SOV/110-58-ii-i/28 The Design of Negative-feed-back knplidynes Made of Transformer Steel. commensurate with that In the rectifier. To allow for reitifier impedance It Is necessary to know the operational volt-ampere characteristic for pulsating direct current. This Is best derived from the static or d.c. characteristic by calculation. The static and operational ch!iracteristies for sellanium rectifiers, previously pub- lished by another author, are plotted in Fig.5- The method of determining the horizontal somi-axis of the ellipse from these curves is explained. uxperimental investigations have shown that by using the characteristic for simultaneous magnetination of tho steel with half- wave and direct current and applying the ellipse equation, the load characteristic can be calculated to an accuracy of 5 - 10%. It is necessary to use magnetic characteristics obtained for the same control circuit impedance as is used Card 3/4 in the magnetic amplifior. Elektrichestvo, 1959, Nr 5, pp 25-31 (USSR) ABSTRAM This investigation concerns the work of the circuits with a linear and a non-linear inductive capacity.donnected with the input of the rectifier 'bridge. A method of determining-the prin- cipal construction parameters of magnetic amplifiers-i6 describ- ed. The work of the circuit is investigated for the case, oc- curring many times in practice, where the inductive capacity of the consumers amountetoa'hkgh value (Refs 1,2). For circuits with semiconductor rectifiers it is assumed that the voltage drop in the rectifier bridge because of the current at the moment of commutation is equal to zero, and that in normal operation with germanium valves the voltage drop at the bridge can be neglect- ed. The linear inductance at the input of the-rectifier bridge is investigated, and on the basis of-the oscillograms recorded Card 1/2 it is shown that the sum of the mean values of voltages in sec- WWI Magee SOV/105-59-5-7/29 ,Calculating Magnetic Amplifiers With a Rectified Inductive Load tions of the circuit is equal to the mean value of the voltage of the source. A circuit with a magnetic amplifier at the input of the rectifiers, and a magnetic amplifier with internal feed- back at the input of the rectifiers are then'investigated.- It is shown that the use of the voltage mean values in the calcula- tion of circuits with inductive load fed with rectified current greatly simplifies the calculation of the magnetic amplifiers. The method described here for determining the characteristics of-m 'agnetic amplifiers is applicable to the use of any type of transformer steel. There are 8 figures and 5 Soviet references. In a DC circuit, the junction-type transistor is actually a controllable resistance whose value can be changed from a few tens up to a few thousand ohms. Connected in series with the generator field winding, it can be used to control the generator voltage. The commercially available P4 type transistor ensures control of Card 1/2 SOV/112-59-3-5124 On Using Transistors in the Schemes of Voltage Regulation of Automobile Generators currents up to 5 amp and has a permissible dissipation power of 30 w (with 300C on its enclosure). Its life is 5,000 hours. If larger currents are desired, a number of transistors can be connected in parallel. These two transistor scheme types (I or more parallel - connected transistors) are presented: (1) smooth regulating schemes (the, transistor resistance is varied continuously as the controlling voltage varies); (2) vibration regulating (discrete) schemes in which the transistor functions as an "on-off " device; the switching is performed by a vibration-type low-power regulator connected in the base circuit of the transistor. A speed-up resistor is connected in the above schemes. A, V. K. The article deals with investigations of this problem with respect to production,of turbine engines, carried out by the Katedra Wytwarzania Silinik6w Lotniczych PW (Department of Aircraft Engine Construc~ion of the Warsaw Polytech- ulc)~ The machinability of Nimonic 80_depends on its hardness and elasticity and is influenced by the "soften, ing" (Wyplyw) phenomenon, caused by high tem Iperatures, described by B. N. Ilyin [Ref. 1-..Cutting Properties of Austenitic Steels]. Re- quirements for a successfull machining of Nimonic 80 are: high stiffness of ma- shines and tools, accurate distance between tool and workpiece; cutting speed not ovirpassing 1Q m1min; exact surface of tool and suitable cooling. Tests were carried out on Nimonic 80, heat. treated at 1,0800C during 8 h, aged at, 71000 during 16 b and cooled at room temperature. The mean mechanical properties of the test 1 2 piece were: IiB'^_~290, Rr 107 k,&/Mm Qr V 72 k9/mM a5 24.5%; c 2?w.
