PERIODICALs ZvaracskY zborn1k, no..21 1962,,234-254
TEXT: The purpose of the study was to,investigate the metallurgical
effects of slags in electroslag welding and remelting, which have been
neglected so far. In an experiment, three 345-mm diameter welding wires
(0-13~' C; 1.3% Mn; 0-04% Si) were melted sipltaneously with a current of
650 A per wire under electroslag from the VUB-34 Mn flux. In another test,
powdered ferrovanadium was continuously added to the slag. Specimens ob-
tained from the first test displayed a very low notch toughness, while the
notch-strength values of specimens from the second test were much higher.
Metallographic and e,lectron-micro.scopic examinations revealed that the low
notch strength was.due to the pre .sence of .iron nitride (Fel6N2) whose forma-
tion was obviously enhanced by 0'xUen from the eleotroslag. When de6xi-
dizing elements (vanadium) were ded to the slag, no iron nitride was found
in the metal.. The,"conclusion is~ that in,,drder -to obtain optimum notch

ABSTRACT: The author mentions the two large groups of relief-forming
factors (the endogenous and exogenous) and the struggle of
opinions characterizing them. In the history of geomorpho-
logical conceptions he distinguishes 3 basic stages. They
are especially noticeable in -the evolution of views on the
origin of the relief of plains. The first stage started
in the middle of last century; the last one began in the
forties and still continues. The author points out the
characteristics of the individual stages of geOMOrPhOlOgi-
cal research, and the struggle for geomorphology between
the geographers and geologists. In the author's opinion,
geomorphology,is indivisible and a geographical science in
spite of the fact that it constantly makes use of geologi-

307/12-90-6-5/23

tectonics at its true worth, while in other regional re-
searches and in some generalizing works this view was left
entirely without elucidation, thus evidencing the undesir-
able fact that each of the abovementioned trends develops
independently. A union of the two directions is the first
task facing geomorphology. Its progress, noticed lately,
was caused to a considerable extent, by new data obtained
from allied sciences. An all-round development of the in-
terconnections of geornorphology with the allied sciences,
is the second urgent task, The third task is to ascertain
the rather ancient original causes which led to the exist-
ence of one or the other form of relief and not to confine
oneself to stating thet immediate, comparatively recent caus-
es. There are 31 Soviet references.

TEXT: The type of gauge discussed is illustrated in Fig.l.
The coil 0 is connected to a high-sensitivity polarized relay
P which trips when the 'actuating ferromagnetic object comes
.xvithin 5-15 mill of the tipper ~;urface of the permanent magnet M.
The relay is made to return to its original position by
mechanical adjustment of the relay and also by the induced pulse
of opposite polarity which appears when the ferromagnetic obje.ct
is reri-.oved. The author derives differential equations I
describing the operation of the system and obtains expressions
..,...for the emf, current, magnetic flux, time constant and.the
number of turns in the coil, which can be used in.rapid det.ermina-
tion of the optimum'parameters of the inductive converter. The
theory has been checked experimentally and was found to be
satisfac.tory. The device has the advantage that it needs no
