ABSTRACTa The above mentioned properties of the esters (1) of the thio-
sulfuric acids were only recently properly investigated for the
first time. According to the authors the synthouis of theuc
esters and the study of their bactericidal properties is prom-
ising (Refs 1, 2). This is supposed to bq the way to develop
new active medicaments. First of all, alkyl esters (V) of
alkane-thiosulfuric acids which correspond best to the natural
antibioticum. "Allizyl" were synthesized by the first author
(Ref 3). The antimicrobic activity was studied on Staphylo-
coocus aur6us, B. coli, Mycob aterium B 5, and on various spe-
oies of fungi, also on water infusoria, on the dysentery bac-

alkyl eater (V), treated in this paperp of 'h
oulfuric acids changes according to their structure within a
rather limited range. This applies also for the fungistatic
activityi The esters of phonyl-methano-thioaulfuric acid and
of tho 2-mothyl-propuno-thiosulfuric acid-1 are the mo6t
active of all compounds (V) oxamined, The accumulation of
thio-ester groups does not land to a positive result. The at-
tachment of a chlorine atom to the p-position with recpect to
the thio-ester group scarcely modifies the activity, the at-
tachment of the CH COIIH-groupp however, decreases it. The
esters of the thDalfanilia'aoid exceed most of the alkyl
esters (V) in their antibacterial and fungicidal properties.
The obtained results prove, that the atructure and the size of
the molecules of the esters in question are not crucial
criteria for the rate of antibacterial activity. Therefore,
investigations in this direction arg to be carried on. There
are 1 table and 4 references, 3 of which are Soviet.

TEXTt The author studies problems connected with the development of gyro-
soopic heeling recorders for *various,objeots. The first part of the paper
deals with the measurement of Inclination angles of moving objects; it is
stated that this work is easily done by means of gyroscopes. Possible
types of Cardanic suspension are discussed. Next, the author describes
gyroscope-sensitive elements for recording devices. Astatio gyroscopaq,
gyro pendulums, aatatic gyroooop.ea with radial correction, etc. may be used
for thic purpose. Yurther, the author dincuacan the transformation of
angular variations of the sensitive element into shifts of the writing
organ. Direct methods, servo methods, and scanning methods are listed and
described. Various recording systems are dealt with, and the mounting of

the control apparatus on the object is discussed. An example illustrates
the importance of correct orientation and proper place of the control
apparatus. A number of such instruments were developed at the Leningrad
Institute of Precision Mechanics and Optics, and successfully tested.
The publication of this article was recommended by the Kafedra
