This program will require a tremendous a.-mount of effort and should lead to the formation of the universal language on a deeply scientific basis. Abstract [Authorls German summary, modified]: A study lasting n Mont s proved that the cow barn preserves relatively favorable heat conditions in relation to atunospheric changes. The microclima was rather sensitive to freezing temperatures and wind. An ateMDt by 'he heeDers to close all windows produced a higher humidity, U slower air flow, higher CO content, and condensation of vapor on walls.'Ilidividual shortcomings in the design of the cown barn are analyzed and improvements suggested, including automation of ventilation. Two healthy piglets were successfully in- fected with amniotic fluid and with the extract of membranes which demonstrate the possibility of infection of healthy animals through contact with amniotic fluid and membranes of diseased animals. The influenza virus was demonstrated in the pericardial fluid of a sick piglet within 24 hours Card 1/2 CZECHOSLOVAKIA/Huma n and Animal Viruses. Grippe Virus Abs lour Ref Zhur Biol., No 4, j.959, No 1461j following its birth and in the lungs, lymph nodes and in the pericardial exudate of a 12 day'old piglet. The source of the infection in borh cases could only be the mother-sow. It is the opinion of the authors that influenza may run its course as a viremia, without local symptoms: the virus may not martifest pneumotropic characteristics; apparently healthy sows may sex-ve as a source of infection. These requirements are met by compounds of metals of the fourth, fifth and sixth groups of the periodic system with carbon silicon, nitrogen and boron. Ths alloy CRV (Cr 0 + WO + Ni3 is outstanding inasmuch that above 1600 C it has an ad~qhte hardness a sufficient resistance to.abrasion and oxidation, it s promising for high temperature applications (up to 1000 to 1100 C) in an oxiding atmosphere under compression loads, exposure and abrasion, erosion and corrosion. In tests with extrusion of non-ferrous metals and alloys dies of the CRV alloy have a service life between twice an&five times as high as dies made of the special alloy "Kaptorll.~ Use of the CRV alloy enables carrying out mechanical tests in compression, hardness measurement, hot bending tests etc. Card 112 8en. 55,7 Z/034/61/000/001/019/021 3073/E535 Manufacture-of Tool Components and Instruments from the Alloy CRV at higher temperatures.- Due~to its outstanding resistance to the effects of chemical-reagents, its use is being extended to components of equipment-and pumps for the chemical industry. The best results were seen in children 24-6 years old, prognosis is usually very poor in cases where there is simultaneous fibroproductive, fibrocateous or destructive diseage of the lungs. In.these cases relanses are very frequent. Cases resistant to strept=ycin therap W were not observecl. On the other hand, the resistance of the patient himself is very important, because the -orognosis ~~,az very poor in children with diminished - resistance (in convalescence after whoanirig-cough, measles Pnd vpricella). Intramuscular administration was unsuccessful, and the authors believe that intratliecal administration of streptomycin is necessary. It has-been found that infants in hospital in many cases do not have cufficient quiet to enable them to sleep. They therefore get less sleep. An attempt was made to so organize the nursing that the infants would be ensured enough calm for their sleep. The study of sleep can be utilized for an investiga- tion into the organization of the nursing in a hospital and for popularization of pavlovian principles.
