A. Zenin. PMTF, 1963, 5). In this method, the measure- ments are made with a thin thermocouple cemented between the compressed powder specimen and a substrate. The surface temperature T. of the burning powder is practically independent of pressure and is dependent on To. Mathematical treatment of the experimental data showed that dT./dT, = 1.26 with a standard deviation of t 0.266. The burning velocity u of the powder increased as both the pressure and the initial temperature of the powder increased. Temperature and pressure dependence data on T., the burning velocity temperature coefficient 0 dlnu/dTo, and the Card 1/2 UDC: 536.46+541-427.6 -1-312569-66 ACC NR, AP6020554 stability criterion 0 (T_ To) are tabulated and plotted. The heat release in the condensed phase was practically independent of the pressure and averaged 70-80 cal/g. The heat release in the gaseous phase increased rapidly to 130 cal/g as the pressure increased from 0.5 to 200 mm Hg; the effect of pressure then became less marked. At pressures below 200 mm Hg, the burning stability is described by the criterion pro- posed by A. D. Margolin (A. G. Istratov, V. B. Librovich. PKrF, 1964, 5), which takes into account the extent and inertia of the reaction zone in the solid phase. At pressures above 200 mm 11g, B. V. Novozhilov's stability criterion is also valid (PMTF, 1965, 4); this takes into account the inertia-free reaction zones and the change in T. as the pressure changes. Th 'e author thanks-A. A. IKhF AN SSSR. M., 1962) conducted at 5-150 atm, during the combustion of powder H, a theoretical function was derived which expresses the volumetric. heat release rate as a function of temperature in the individual reaction zones. A plot of this function vs the temperature showed the heat release zone in the condensed phase with a minimum, the heat release zone in the gas-smoke phase with a maximum, and finally the flame zone extending over an interval of 150C. The logarithm of the heat release rate function plotted for a coiistant temperature vs the logarithm of pressure yielded straight lines which permitted the determination of the activation energies in the individual zones. The following values of activation energies were obtained: 5 0.3 kcal/mole for the gas-smoke zone, 50 kcal/mole for the flame zone,j and values of 6.5 and 26 kcal/mole for the condensed phase zone at pressures of Cord 1/2 UDC: 536.46 - Ct-WR--AP6029 753 1-10 atm and 10-150 atm, reapectively.
