As a result of the concretization of the conception of the hydrodynamic character of the "crisis" in the boiling regime,a modelfor this phenomennon for the case of the enforced motion of a liquid is suggested. 2. For the mathematical formulation of the model a criterion system has been obtained. 3. After dealing with the experimental data concerning the ori- tical thermal stress in the case of an enforced motion of water with a core that is not heated up to the temperature t . a criter- ion equation was obtained for the pressure domain of from loo to 21o absolute atmosphere pressure, which agrees also satisfac- torily with the data found by Buchberg (Ref- 4). 4- Studying the aforementioned experimental data created the possibility to determine the usefulness of the criterion system Card 1/2 mentioned under 2. in first approximation, if the law of simila- An,'the Problem of the Law of Similarity for a Critical Thermal 89-1-lo/29 Stress in the Case of an Enforced Motion of a Liquid. rity for the critical thermal stress is sbt up in the case of an enforced motion of a liquid. Thin system of equations is nupplo;ronted by a number of critoria obtained from, exporina"lital determinations and the critical equation is deduced as the final objective. The critical equation deduced in the paper (Ref 2) maybe applied only to a pressure range of 100 - 210 ata. An investigation of heat transfer when water in tubes boils with bubble formation. PERIODICAL: Teploenergetika, no.4, 1962, 74-76 TEXT: Although a good deal of experimental data has been accumulated on heat exchange when water boils in tubes, there are considerable differences between the results of various authors and little work has been done on heat transfer at high steam contents. The:present work was undertaken to fill the gap. The experimental section consisted of a pure nickel tube of 12 mm o.d. with a wall thickness of 1.5 mm, electrically heated and'with an effective length of 700 mm. The incoming water could be heated either to some definite temperature below the saturation temperature or to a given steam content. Tests were~ made with the pressure, the specific heat flow and the rate of flow of,water (by weight) maintained'constant, and the input heat Card' 1/ 3 S/096/62/000/004/001/001 An investigation of heat transfer E194/E455 content of the water was determined which gave a set value of steam content in the experimental section. Tests were made-with boiling with bubble formation at pressures of 30,.60, 100 and 150 atm with flow rates of 250 to 2000 kg/m2 sec, with specific heat flow rates up to 0.6 x 106 kcal/m2 hour and steam contents by weight up to 90%. The maximum error of determination of the steam content a ranged from + 20% at a pressure of 30 atm to +, 50% at a pressure of 150 :~tm- The error rises with increase: in pressure, because at higher pressures the temperature droPB are smaller and thepossibilities of error are greater. Forced flow was used and it was found that neither the rate of circulation nor the initial value of the steam content had any influence on the process of heat transfer and, with well-developed surface boiling, the heat transfer coefficient was entirely determined by the specific heat flux and the pressure. The influence of pressure on the heat-transfer coefficient can be allowed for by a criterion Kp. The following empirical formula was derived for heat transfer to a steam/water mixture during boiling with bubble formation- Card 2/3 s/o96/62/000/004/001/001 An investigation of heat transfer E19VE455 a 0.1K 0.314 q 0.7 (4) p where Kp p 04 (5) %/O(Y' Y11) a the heat transfer coefficient; q the absolute pressure,kg/c-~ a the surface tenslon, kg/m; y', y" - the specific gravity of- water and steam on the saturation line at the given pressure, kg/O. The maximum deviation of experimental points from this relationship does not exceed + 30%. Results calculated by Eq.(4) are in goo& agreement with tl~ose found by other authors--for the case of developed bubble type boiling in water initially below the saturation temperature. The relationship between the heat- transfer coefficient and pressure and specific heat flow is of them same form for boiling with developed bubbling in tubes as in bulk boiling. There are 7 figures. To ell-in the effect of i,,.Ze diameter all experiments were parformed on tubes with I.D- or 8-9 nm; tube lengths varied from 180 to 2100 =2 and pressures were 392-981 n/cm2. Arintchin (1952, 1954). based on simultaneous plethysmographic and sphyg- moman6metric readings obtained from the same extremity atdifferent rates of com- pression by the pneumatic cuff. Observations were made on patients with various circulatory disorders and on normal subjects. Objective recording of auscultatory data was obtained by means of angiophonography. Close correlation between deter- minations of maximal (systolic) arterial pressure was obtained by the two methods under discussion (Korotkoff and Arintchin's) during compression as well as during release of pressure. Diastolic arterial pressure readings were found to be less accurate. Disappearance of discernible sound or% more or less rapid release of pressure may coincide with the abrupt recanalization of veins. Durmg gradual re- lease of pressure the disappearance of sound may coincide with any state of venous recanalization. In some patients audible phenomena may persist even after restitu- tion of blood flow (infinite tone). Anglophonographic records reveal the disappear- ance of sounds at cuff pressures that are much lower than true minimal arterial pressure. Thus, three independent values may be obtained by readings taken during release of pressure: true minirntit arterial pressure, venous recanalization (de- compression) pressure, and the range of audible vascular phenomena. Each of these values has its own physiological or clinical meaning. Simonson, - Minneapolis, Minn. SAV-OYLOVICH, Georgiy Goorgiyevichj prof.
