'Data on the neptunium content of carbonate mother solutions indicate that the dicar-
bonate complexes (N02(CQ3)2]3_ may be present in them. Absorptiop spectra of Np02+
in 50% K2&~ and Cs CO. solqtions were recorded in the 9000-10500 A range; a substan-
tial decrease of th?e-'Qlar extinction coefficient f (by a factor of about 30) was
observed as compared to the value of C in I M HN039 indicating strong complex forma-
tion between 02 + and carbonate Ions. A study of the absorption spectra of
crystalline R 51NPO20~),] (R = Irt Cs+) in the 9000-1000 X range permitted the deter-
mination of m6lar ext c Ion coefficients of the individual splitting components of
the t~~+ band in the 9500-9600 1 range, Analysis of vibrational IR spectra of the

neptunoyl tricarbonates showed an increase in tho interaction of NPO Cc~
on passing from potassium to cesiump manifested In a decr as of th~ rokCe
F of the Np-O bond from 0.504 to 0.498 mdynq/cm (r -0 - 1.80 1). 7he symetry of
2- in tho neptunoyl tricarbonates vas found to kcrease from D~h to C2,- Orig.
