:Cha;lges in the Adsorption of Potential-Determlining Ions During
Coagulation of Lyophobic Sols by Indifferent Electrolytes
a marked additional adsorption of potential-deter-.
mining ions.could be stated in each case. The de-
sorption of iron ions, which could be observed during
the coagulation of the Fe (011) sol,was due to secon-
3
dary factors. Coagulation of lyo
phobic sols.by in-
different electrolytes, therefore, affects not only,
the external but also the internal sheath of the colloid
particle double layer. The chanrres observed thereby
cannot be explained from the standpoint of a purely
electrostatic compression of the double layer. There
~ieen this conception
is a quantitative disparity bet
band the obtained data. The authors conclude by re-
commending, the further study of the coagulation theory,
.,which is to consider the quantitative effect of eleci-
trolytes on the surface potential of colloid.partioles.
Towards the end of the article, the authors mention

2575. THE USE OF SPECIFIC BACTERIOPHAGE IN DIPHTHERIA (Russian text) -
Zhelyabovskaya E. 1. Saratov 1956
Treatment of 860 patienTY-W-TIF-various forms of diphtheria showd that use of
Aiphtheria bacteriophage combined with anti-diphtheria serum and other causal
therapy more rapidly abolishes local processes, decreases general toxaemia.
lowers the number and volume of serum Injections required. increases phagocytos-
is. and decreases the frequency of complications and mortality. Carrier state in
pat!ents treated with diphtheria bacteriophage was found in 5.1% of cases. and in
i the non-treated in 25.1% after the 21st day of the disease. Virulence o(the
diphtheria strains isolated after phage treatment was considerably decreamed. It
Is concluded that diphtheria bacterlophagels effective In prophylaxis and treatment
of diphtheria.
