I'laser with a 0.7 j maximum radiation eneray was used for making holes in OKh23N28M3D3T 6teal spinnorettes, It was found possible to make holes 0~_,_almostj~i:ylindrical_ shape and with a conical entrance if desired. The hardness of the heat-affected zone did not undergo any substantial changes. The ionized air was carried away from the discharge gap by an air jet to the Analyzing device$ in which the imi current was proportional to the number of ions in the dis- charge gap. The experiments were made in dried air at atmospheric preamwe., The range of frequencies wais 1.5 - 20 Mee,, the distance between the electrodes 0.6 - 1.8 mm. The initial ionization was produced either by illuminating one of the electrodes with ultraviolet light., or by introdwing into the gap, by means of an a1r jetp negative ions genersted by an awdliary corons. discharge. It is shovn that the density of the negative space charge varies vitt variation of the amplitude of the high-frequency voltage nonmonotonically, passing .through two minima connected with variations of the coefficients of adhesion of the electrons to the neutral molec~6s. The data show a reduction in n from 2.07 in the 50 P region to 1.94 at 90 u. In the 220-400 u region, n remains practically constant, varying from 1.89 to 1.92 with an average value of 1.91.
