The fuel used is uranium di- carbide enriched to 90% U235. Gr:RhhiteXnd beryllium are used as reflectors. Electricity is gener td By silicon-germanium semicon- ductor thermocouples distributed on the outer surface of the reflec- i.tor and connected in four, groups which can be connected in aeries or in parallel. The temperatures of the active zone and outer sur- face are 1770 and 1000C, respectively. The power rati~go are 0.50- 0.60 XW electric and 40 kW thermal, the maximum current (parallel is 1013 neut/cm2 sac in the ;connaction)1s 88 A, the neutron flux center of the active zone and 7 x 1012 on its boundary. The reactor has . negative temperature. reactivity coefficient. The equipment. has high inherene stability and requires no external regulator, and little change was observed in the thermocouple properties after 2500 hours of operation. Tests on the equipment parameters are continu- ino and the results are beiag analyzed for use in future designs. orig. art. bast 8 figures and I formula. TITLEt On the Possibility,of Producing Ohmic Contact on Silicon by Metal Rubbing During Dry Friction by beans of a Semi- conductor PERIODICALt ,Pizika tvardogo tela, 1959, Vol 1, Nr 10, pp 1583.- 1586 (USSR) ABSTRkCTt The nickel end 'contact wer ap3lied to silicon monocrystals of the n- and p-type (:5.8. mm ) by precipitation on the ; cut crystal faces. Strips of Mot Fop brass, Sn, Ta, bronze, Ni, Cu, and Al were successively applied to the crystal faces parallel to the end contacts. This was done by metal rubbing in dry friction after the crystal faces had been purified by cutting (granulation: 200) or etching (10% KOH at 1000C). The diode characteristics were taken by the statistical method. d was pressed A tungsten wire whose pointed or spherical en ' onto one-bf the metal strips, served as second electrode. The volt-ampere characteristics are graphically represented in figures 1-5. It was shown that it is possible to establish Card 1/2 ohmic recombination contact's without.preparatory cutting and 66338 On the Possibility of Producing Ohmic Contact on SOV/181-1-10-13/21 Silicon by Metal Rubbing During Dry Friction by Means of a Semiconductor scapling. The method permits simultaneous development of two processes, namely, metalrubbing and the formation of "disturbed layers". The.latter contain a large number of minute cracks and mutually disoriented microblooks. Good olimic contact is thus obtained-in.the "disturbed layers" on contact with metals because,-as a result of structure defects, these layers.aontain much more-recoatbination centers than the initial surface of-the somioonductori It is pointed out that I. V. Durnev assisted inmeaaurements. There are 7 figures and 1 reference. Samples 25 x 6 x 3 mm were cut from thisee crystals# polished with electrolytically produced artificial corundum (granularity No. 28O)s and etched in 10% KOH. The samplen were heated to 8000C for six minutes, and then quenched in vacuum diffusion oil. Resistivity wan meaeured'by the compensation method with two tungsten probes'. The re sistivity of all camples, was considerably increased after quenching (Table 1), with a gradual decrease at room temperature, Fige 1 shows ths course of realstivitr during 24 hours* This decrease takes place even at 77 K (Fig. 2~, although~ it proceeds more slowly. One sample wan heated six times to 800 C and Card 1/2 The Influence of Heat Treatment on the Electric S111?7M610021041041034 Properties of p-Type Silicon B002/B063 quenched, and In th a meantimet it was tempered at 10000 for one hour. The maximum resistivity was found after the second quSnahing (Table 2). An- other sample had previously been tempered at 1200 0 for sigbt hours; heat- ing to 8000C and quenching only led to a slightly increased resistivity. 0 TheIrreversible process occurring on tempering at 1200 C can be attribut- ed to 1) the disappearance of defects formed when the crystal was grown; 2) loss or acquisition of Impurities; 3) "activity" loss of some foreign atoms by reaction with oxygen. The resistivity of n-type silicon samples is not increased by heating or quenching. There are 2 figures, 2 tables, and 15 references: 1 Soviet, 7 American, 5 British) I German, and I Japanese. The circular magnetoconductor probe had either a single air gap or 2-diametrically displaced gaps. An exciting magnetic flux induced surface currents in the part to be measured, the values of which were correlat-- ed with the geometrical dimensions-and electrical conductivity of the body. The ana- lytical dependence between the parameters of nonmagnetic metallic cylinders and the impedance and emf of the pickup windings was derived mathematically '' Vector equations are given for the potential of t lie electromagnetic field in cylinders (A') an d, in the air gap (All) as functions of first and second series Bessel indices, cylinder dimen- sions, and the vector potential of the exciting field in the air gap. Experiments werel- Card 1/2 UDC: 620.179.14 ACC NR: AP6023644 carried out on bronze and copper cylinders of 6 and 3 mm diameter, respectively, us- Ing a ferrite ring with an external diameter of 55 mm, a 11 x 12 mmZ cross section and a relative permeability of 1000. The changes in pickup impedance are given as a f-unc- tion of dimension parameters and the results are compared to the calculated values. The effects of shielding and short-closed looping on the distribution of magnetic field strength are described. Circular magnetoconductors were found to be free of the deficiencies encountered in straight loop sections. The circular pickup also resp=d- ed better to cross sectional cracks in the tested cylinders. A more uniform field was obtained by using selective shielding and short-closed looping in both types of pickups. Orig. art. has: 4 figures, 19 formulas. Atmospheric cli.cui lation is characterized by the predominance of western transfer, disturbed by meridional circulation processes (in 75%6 of the cases, according to tile Dzerd2e- yevskly typification). The relationship is analyzed between the effects exerted by the Atlantic and the Pacific, which result in monsoon activity and a change in the structure of the heat balance with an accompanying increase in the thermal Cardl/2 UDC; 551. 582.1(571. 5) L 47354-66 A7C-C, NRI AR6029449 gradient. The monsoons are shown to penetrate as far as Lake Baykal and the Lena River. The section entitled "Underlying Surface" discusses the effects of mountain-trough relief and the water mass of Lake Daykal on climate. The 0 dependence of air temperature, air humidity, local winds, foens, precipitati n" and local weather on relief is analyzed. Weather maps and charts showing summary temperatures above 10C, annual precipitation, and snow covey are included. In winter, Lake Baykal exerts a warming influence on the cli~'pate, i.e., it g.ives off 16-18 kcal/cm2 of heat per month; in summer, it ex~~is a cooling effec' by'absorbing approximately 10 kcal/cm2 of heat per month, hinder- ing the development of convective processes. The effect of Lake Baykal pene trates to thecoast and the adjacent mountain slopes, giving rise to maritime climatic characteristics. Using sliding 10-year values, an analysis is made of changes in climate, whose moderating effect on the surrounding aridity has a beneficial effect on agriculture. The section entitled "Seasonal Characteristics" presents the regime of meteorological elements and local weather on the basis of the Chubukov-Fedorov method, as well as an evaluation of vegetation conditiol.,is, open air working conditions, and the development or resorts. Unfavorable climatic characteristics are described and practical recommendations are made for their modification.
