without local modulation coils. In the latter case the autodyne frequency is modulat
ed, while spurious AM is eliminated by the transmission of: a compensating I-f
volt-age to the transmitting tube grid. A circuit which autom atic ally binds autodyne
frequency to the measured field is connected for measurements of field topography
and for especially complex measurements., A block-diagram and a photo of the
instrument, as well as a schematic diagram of the h-f uniti are given in the
original article. Errors occurring with measurements wich the IMP-3 instrument
are analyzed. V. Mamayev., [Translation of abstract]

ABSTRACT: The author describes tests of steel-backed aluminum
crankshaft bearing inserts installed;in YaMZ-204
and YaMZ-206 engines. Up to the present time,~ the
bearing inserts of YaMZ engines were:manufactured of
lead bronze SB-30 or metalloceramic materials.: The
high price of these inserts and the.difficulties of
e low corrosion re-
their manufacture, as wellas th
'
sistance of lead bronze, especially in two-stroke,
engines, necessitated research for finding a cheaper
and more corrosion-resistant antifriction material.
Such a material is the aluminum.alloy ASM (3-5- ,
5.5% Sb; o-3-0.7% Mg;,the rest is aluminum) which,

tion in the tractor industry. Since June 1957,
steel-backed.aluminum bearing inserts, manufactured
of alloy ASM, were tested in YaMZ-204 and YaMZ7206
engines at the Yaroslavskiy motornyy zavod (Yaros-.
lavl' Engine Plant). A YafAZ-204V engine, equipped
with the aforementioned bearing inserts, was run for
2,000 hours on a test stand. A YaMZ-206D engine
was installed in a ZIL-127 bus which-was driven over
a distance of over 40,000 km. A YaMZ-204A engine was
installed on a MAZ-200 truck which was driven over
a distance of 31,000 km The data obtained during
these tests are compilea in five tables. The;test
results showed that steel-backe&.~aluminum inse'rts~
may be used in engines YaMZ-204 and Yah1Z-206.:':Ad-
ditional investigations were ca:rried.out by NATI
concerning the technology of.manufacturing these
inserts. Based on these investigations, recommen-
dations were made by NATI for manufacturing steel-

in the second series of experiments. :'It was estab.11~.
lished that crankshaft bearing inserts manufactured
with the ASM alloy meet the requirements of YahIZ-204
and YaMZ-206 engines. The experience-with these
bearing inserts obtained on tractor and truck c0m-~
pression ignition engines may eventually be used for
carburetor engines. A large-scale introduction of,
such bearing inserts will be possible since the. pro-
duction of steel-alumi-num strips has been set up at
the metallurgical plants "Krasnyy Oktyabr" and
"Mikhaylovskiy". There are I photograph, 1 graph
and 5 tables, and 1 Soviet reference.

Guinea pigs were experimentally infected withan emulsion.obtained from the organs
of ticks that were removed from infected goats and sheep. Expts showed that
Or. lahorensis can become infected with brucellosis andcan~transmit this infection
to healthy, animals. Since ticks come in contact with rodents and feed on their
blood, brucellosis melitensis can precximbly be spread from, one place to another
by means of ticks and rodents.
