ABSTRACT: At the present time there io no method or apparatus, to regis-
ter continuously fuel consumption, 7',,4tis fact makes the
study of engine properties during operation very difficult,
Such an apparatus is described. It c6nuists of a capticitive
transducer (Figure 1) and a device transforaing the c

changes during fuel consumption into oorresponding change's
of current. The transducer is a glasrvcylinder covered on
the outside with tin foil and a copper 'rod'in the in side.~
It works as a capacitor. When fuel io consumed, the~fuel.
level in the transducer changes. The different dielectric
properties of the fuel and air change the cal?acity of them.

The system works without StiLbilizing devicde. The general
view of the apparatus is shown in Figure 4.' The fuel con-
sumption is registered on an oscillogram.

TEXT: The effect of the change of the linear rate of deformation on Vie
resistance to.deformation was investigated when stretching Cu OfM 1 (Ml) grade
and N1 ofH 1 (N1) grade and also when upsetting Pb. The tests were carried dut
on annealed cylindrical samples 5 mmIn diameter and 50jmii long. The Cu and N1
samples were deformed on a vertical ram impact machine under tensile conditions.
The weight of the drop load was 20 and 280 kg, It has been established that A
a linear rate of deformation decreasing considerably in the process of tension
the resistance of metals to deformation increases noticeably. A similar aepen-
dence of the resistance to deformation on the character of change of the linear

rate of deformation was obtained when upsettirtc; on a vertical impact machine
pressed-rod Pb-samples 8 mm in diameter and 13 mm high. At the beginning.9f the
process of deformation the resistance to defoxmiation of Pb at a. higher initialr
linear rate of deformation has a lower value t1an at a lower initial linear rate
of deformation. The conclusion is drawn that the charactor ofthe change~of the
linear rate of deformation in the process of deformation has an essentialAffeat
on the resistance of metals to deformation; the closer the cuvve of the change
of the linear rate of deformation approaches the constant,linear rate of deforma-
tlon, the lower the resistance to deformation.

ABSTRACT: This paper is a critical review of the signal travel dime vs. f r:e'q'jieqcy
averaging method in microwave, phase shift based, two-statiOn distance nea-suring',equi~
pment. The main source o~A*..errors is here the interference. of the ground-ref le*cted Sig-
nal.'The author shows that the reiLdings of the DMA phase ind icatoi generally do not
follow the sine law - as a function of the changing carrier frequ~nay. For this an'd 0-~'
ther reasons, the method of averaging the distances vs. freqttency'to arrive at the
true distance, - harbors substantial errors. Under the assumption,of a point ieflLllcto~
he derives expressions for the expected theoreticul graph and finds that it has a~sha
pe similar to patterns found in actual field operations, Fig', 1. Ile then showal that
with the use of the current averaging practice.the error May'be ar, large as 45 cm on
