Africa, Europe and Asia. Closer investigations revealed~that;many problems con-
cerning the development of contemporary cartography have riot toon solved. by the
Polish cartographic institutes. No uniform, views exist an thd application of
levelling cuts on small-scale maps, and levelling cuts on theme maps var7. After
comparing various scales of levelling cuts usea'ih the USSR aid Great Britain'.
the author comes to the following conclusionst the application of a uniform scale
for levelling cuts for a:series of certain maps is not correct. The basic scale
of levelling cuts should be 200 and not 300 m. Thick leivelling-cut scales s63uld
be used on small scale maps. For certain parts of Europe and Africa cuts of
1,500 m should be used. For each individual map a proper scale of levelilngtuts
should be made. For continents or given countries the acale of levelling cuts

TITLE: The problem of levelling cuts on low-scale intips. :P&rt I
PERIODICAL: PrzeglqLd geadezyjny, no. 10, 1960, 363 - 367
'The article presents a short evolution history of'contour levelling
on low-scale maps, discusses the problem of levelling cuta;and~~analyzes levelling
cuts marked on wall maps published by the Pafistwowe Wydawhictwi Szkolne (Nitiohal
School Publications) in Warsaw and others. By comparing levelling cuts onimaps
prepared by J. Szaflarski, M. Janiszewski, T. Garley, the former Institute of
Cartography im. E. Romer in Wroclaw and the National School PulAications in War-
saw, a difference in contours is noted. Up to 500 m altitude four different lev-
elling cuts were found: a) depression 0, 100, 200, 500; al) depression 0, 200,
500; b) depression 0, 150, 3009 500; bl) depression 0, 300, 500. Between the
heights of 500 to 2,000 m, levelling cuts were uniform. Above the height of 6
3,000 m three scales of levelling cuts were found: a) 2,000, 3,000, 5,000; V)
2,000, 4,000; a) 2,000. Moo, 4,ooo, 6,oco. On the ptvsent day maps the fol~-
lowing principles should be taken into account: 1) Accurate relation between

contour height and situation points. 2) Accurate inclination sine;le of ali;typ4a
of contours. 3) General characteristics of the various ty'pes .a.f terrain and con-
tours. 4) Plasticity of the ground should be shown. Levelling cuts on low-sciae
maps published in the USSR are the following: Heightas depre6sion 0, 2004~ 500,
1,000, 2,000, 3,ooo, 4,000, 5,000 m. Depthat 0, 200, 590, 1,000, 2,000, 4,000,
6,000 m. A discussion on the.subject of levelling cuts on low-~saale maps oontin-
ued In the USSR for half a century. In this discussion & numb4r*of scientists
took part, among them A.A. Tillo, V.M. Lozinova, S.N. Nikitin, A.N. Voronina, T.
N. Ounbina, K.A. Salitchev, J.P. Zarucka and others. T.N. Gunbina elaborated it
special table showing a number of possibilities of contour Inclination angle
where a distance between each levelling contour is not less than 0.3 mm. 0.A.
Siergyeyev analyzed inclination angles ard ascertained four tyi)es of contour. 1)
Low land with extreme inclination angles of slopes up to 200. 2) Hilly ground up
to 350. 3) Medium mountains up to 450. 4) High mountaitis above 450. A number
of Investigations showed that the following factors inflvence the selection of
levelling cuts: a) the s0alef b) the purpose of the maj~; c) absolute mi re 'la-
tive height of given types and morphological forms of relief slaape and d) maximum
and average inclination angle of slope. It was ascertaii%ad that it Is impossible
to elaborate a universal and uniform scale for levelling cuts on low-scale maps.

PERIODICALt Radiotekhnika, 1960, Vol.. 15, No. So PP. 53-56
TEXT: The amplification of poorly adjusted selective ampl:1fiers with
frequency-dependent feedback tends, not to zero like in r6sonance
amplifiers, but to one. This affects the.selectivity:~and noi se immuni ty
of feedback amplifiers. The phase angle of the amplification factor .tendil
toward 900 with deteriorating adjustment of' a resonance amplifier, while
it tends to zero with deteriorating adjustment of a feedback ampliflOr.
Two proposals are made for the elimination of this differanoe. The
amplification factor of a feedback amplifier is gived as

A discussion of this expression ahows that this difference.can be removed:
as follows: The voltage K0/(K0+1) is to be subtracted from the output

Abstract Strains Tu-2, Tu-29, and Tu-420, thoroughly tes-

number of times through the organism of mice im-

The strains obtained fromthese colonies while
possessing most of the properties typical of ty-
phoid fever bacteria, wore characterized by low
agglutinability and a virulence'decreased by.2
to 8 times. They possessed an expressed immuno-
genesis in relation to their own us well as to
the initial Tu-2 culture. The nratractod culti-

some Of the properties of typhprid fever bacteria,
but led to the further waakeninS of their viru-
