708. CREATION OF 'GRFEN BELTS' AROUND MOSCOW'S HOSPITALS (Ituis-

Study of 3 differ~R_R-9-spital 'sites In Moscow revealed that presence of even .5~all
greenareas in the vicinity creates favourable rnicro-chmatic C(3ndititltill. It miftens
the effects of radiation, and changes in temWrature and humidity on the territory
of the hospital and in the wards with windows facing the garden are mild, The con-
valescing patients when resting in the square overt4hadowed by vegTtation felt
comfortaNy warm. With temperatures not exceeding 324 C. there was no disturb-
ance of the physiological functions. In patients remnininil for 30 min, in the open
air on the site exposed in the sun, where radiation produced temperatu"s from
32 to 7011C., there appeired signs of overheating; there were acceleraUon of Pulal
and respiration, rise in temperature of skin and of th%; body, profuse sweating,
weakness. giddiness, headache and nausea. Sanitary Inspection of 25 hospitals in
Moscow demonstrated the extreme shortage of green belts and very poor condition
of the gardens ofthemajorityof the hospitals. The blue prints of the planned
hospitals do not pay due attention to hygienic requirements in providing frardenu,
The lac%- of appreciation of the importance of greon plants on the territory of
hospitals by the hospital personnel and by the architects calls for a radical re-
orientation. Several suggestions are made for improvement of the vegetntion oil
the territory of Moscow's hospitals.

pressed in an effective altitude scale which muot be converted to

1958, 12, 876); instructions in how to use the method are given.
Using as an example an ionogram taken in Miedzeszyn, the use of the
method is explained and various possible errors are eiraluated.- The

ABSTRACT: A laboratory method for solecting matorial for dis-
infecting at low temperatures is described. The de-
termination of the effectiveness of disinfecti.ng mq-
terial at low temperatures took place in a cryostat
with a Deviar flask. The author te;~ted the follovring
material at low temperatuxos: zionochloramine D, cal-
cium hypochlorite, hexachlormelamine, chlorine dio-
xide, e1ectrolyzed sodium chloride, Solui;ions and phe-

most effective: 100%, chloramine in a 10,% water solution
of ammonia with the addition of 0.5% OP-10; 10% di-
chloramine in dichlorethan.e; 8% hexachlormelamine in
dichlorethane; lYo solution of diocide in dichlorethane;
electrolyzed soliations of sodium chloride with a-a ad-
dition of 0.5'0 OF-10. The data obtained confirm that
the disinfectinE effect of chemical sub.-Z;tances at low
temperatures is sharply reduced even in tests in vitro
at optimal contact of the disinfectin,-, e;ubstances to
