The authors proposed the oblique scattering method for studying the
orbits of small meteor bodies at the IAU Symposium No 33 in 1961; this
paper now describes practical investigations of the method. Since 1965
the methad has been used in measuring 3,200 radiants and the velocities of
individual sparndic meteors brighter than approximately +81Dr. The mean
square err.ars far measuring radiant coordinates are 2�.S and for v~lticity
1.5 km/sec. T`heye e:~timales were confirmed nn the bns:[s of ol~s~~rvatiaa:a
of the Geminids stream. The radio magnitude of a meteor was estimated
using the formula mr = ~a0 - 2.5 logaLm, where d.}~ is the. electron density
at thy: point of maximum ionization. Usin$ the measured radiants .end vel.c~ri--
ties, ap electronic caa:puter was used in calculating the orbits for 1,090
Meteors bri.gf;ter th,~t approximately +bmr and for 500 meteors brighter than
approximately +bmr. In contrast to the radar method, the new radio method
makes it possible to observe faint me tears having great velocities and

Abstract: Thermomechanical treatment is one method o� produ~:ink; m~_iteri.als
with strengths of up to 300 kg/mm2: heating to about 1100�C, rapid cooling to
500-600�C rolling at this temperature with signifi-cant hardening of the super-
cooled austenite, quenching, during which the martensite forned inherits file
hardening of the austenite, and tempering. The Chelvabinsk Scientific Re-
search Institute for Metallurgy tested specimens of type 30I:1~5`(VNGS s t~~el
on the plastometer. The tests were performed in the supercooJ.ed austeni.tic
state and modeled thi;rmomccliutilcal trc;atmcnt. '1'lic studies :~hoTac~.l Chat 3n
he super-cooled austenitic state, the values of ~~u are indepdent of deEorma-
tion rate u over the range of change 0,001-30 sec-1 and are virtually inde-
