A. F. Ioffe of the Soviet Academy of Sciences and its main.features is presented. Its dimensions are: length = 18 m, diameter = lm. A 57-mm powder gun is used for accelerating models from 2.0 to 53 mm in diameter to a maximum speed.of 1800 mjAec. The range may be filled with various gases at pressures from 0101 to 5 atm. The range'is intended for various gasdynamicstudies at high Reynolds num- NR AT7015689 bers, for studies of the eifect of A, numbers of flow structure, and for obtaining qualitative spectra, and photographic and radiotelemetric measurements. -The model is photographed in two mut6,ally normal direc- tions in 14 unifo.-mlly,distributed sections along the~range. The photo- graphic and recording systems are located inside theitube in order to avoid optical.distortions due to observation windows, Photographs of the range, sketches of the registration section, optical system,.light source, high-speed photographs.of the flow past, various, models; at dif- ferent M(1.85 to 3.68), circuit diagrams_of~the blocking and gun control systems, and also block diagrams of the time measuring and, recording systems are given and described in detaii.,i. It is difficult to determine current requirements at the pro:3ont time, but if oxi.3ting programi, for the moderrilzation of operating ac- colorators ara conalderod, then apparantly -the immodinto jzoblem J.a to inczease intensity by - 2 orders; that is, a medium current of 100 microam- peres. This is not beyond present-day technical capabilities if a fast synchrotron with an injector-linear accelerator of the "meson factory" type is used. 1/1 USSR UDC: 519.1 BASENSHPILER, V. Ya. In the course of the expezinents It was deter- mined that CO may form in considerable quantities und6r conditions when the 00 added art;hcWly to the methane remains practically unchanged. Hence a route for the appearance of CO2As postulated by-passing the stage of CO fo=ation. Combustion of an atomic flamew especially in case of a "coaxial" system is a very complex process in which during the initial stage the crucial role is played by radial and axial diffusion and heat transfer.
