"Some Indices of Mineral Metabolism in Workers Exposed to Beryllium Compouilds"

Abstract: The content of magnesium, chlorides, inorganic phosphorus, and calcium
was determined in the serum of a group of workers exposed, some sporadically and
others regularly, to !:-Iltble and insoluble beryllium compounds. None exhibited
any symptoms of berylliusis. The calcium, inorE;an:Lc phouphorus, and chloride
levels were found to be within normal Limits. But the blood ragnesium content
vas abnormally low, varying with the degree arA duration of contact with the toxic
agent. Miese findings are similar-to those observed in chronic beryllioBis
~Yatients, except tbAt the. calcium level is, abnorma.11Y hiKh in 'baryllioois patients

Abstract: In the article are presented data on change of the mechanical pro-p-
erties, and sensitivity to the concentration of stresses, of aluminum castinE;
alloys of various systems when the test temperature is Imiered to 200K. The
character of the interrelationship of the properties an'd structure of the
alloys within the temperature interval of 293-200 K is ascertained, as well
as the cause for the embrittlement of a number of alloy-a at lcrr temperatures.
Embrittlement and premature destruction of the alloys at loir'temperatures
axe caused by large internal stresses) which bring about the origination and

Translation, The mechanical properties of Mg-Se-Y-Mn alloys in the hot-
pressed and the hot-rolled states were investigated at room, temperature and
at temperatures up to 400'.. The-effect of beat treatment on the properties
of these alloys and the microstructure in the cast and hot-pressed states
was also investigated. The strength properties of alloys of the Mg-Sc-Y41n
considerably exceeds the properties of MAII and MA12 alloys at temperatures
up to 400* and properties of the allay VMDl up to 300'. At temperatures of
350-4000 the.strength properties ofiNg-Se-Y-Mn alloys are close to the

Abstract: A survey of the literature is presented in vhich data are provided
-on the home ranges of rodents in the USSR The area of home ranges of var-

to Sciurus, Spennophilopsis, and Dipus. With a similar feeding pattern
among, the various species, the ham rang,& area corresponds to the size of
the animals in question. For animals of.stmilar size, the home ranges of
seed consumers are larger than, those of vegetAtion consLuaers. This considera-
tion holds,true, howeverl only if the mobility of the animals is compared over
a brief period. Geographical distinctions in horte ranges used by the same
species are considerable, and may overlap species distinctions; therefore
..comparison of the home -ranges of different species should be;based upon mater-
ial obtained in tho vam area.
