ABSTRACT: The method of molecular distillation makes it possible to in-
vestigate the narrow fractions or concentrates of individual
components of mixtures which are not able to stand high temper-
atures. Because of the employment of too high temperatures in
the case of a sensitive apparatus it is necessary to reduce the
time of experimenting down to fractions of a second. For sucb
cases evaporators of centrifugal construction are built.
The main components of this apparatus am: A centrifugal
distiller, a degasing device, vessels for the liquids to be
distilledp a magnetic pump for circulation of the liquid.
The tubes are provided with electric heaters and a regulating
device for the liquid destillate is provided. The distiller
Card 1/2 and the degasing device are connected with a vacuum system b;r

means of a nitrogen coolero An M-M-P-154 galvanometer serves
as indicator. The vessel in the interior of the apparatus
receives the liquid and passes it on to the degazing device
by means of a pump. The liquid then enters the distiller.
Zach individual fraction of the distillate in collected in
rotors individuallyo The apparatus permits distillation of a
quantity of 1 1 per hour at a temperature of 3000.

PMODICAL: Khimicheskoye mashinostroyeniye, 1960, No. 5. PP. 16 - 18
TEM The article in a continuation of an earlier paper on the hydrau*.ios
and'mans transfer In the Venturi tube (Ref. 1, V.I. Mitrozov, P.A. Semenov and
YU.V. Tuawwv, Xhimichookoye mashinastroyenlys, 1960, No. 3). The present paper
deals with the Wluence of the conic shape of confustra and diffusers on tho kv-
draulle resistance and mass transfer in the jetless Venturi tube. Performan,ze
testa on tubes with confuser taper angles of 17, 31 and 610 showed, that taper
angles bear no effect on hydraulic resistance or maiss transfer, nor depend ol
then the transition from pulsating to steady process. Hydraulic tests on tubes
with diffuser taper of 8. 17 and 300 revealed that whatever this taper may be,
there are always two hydraulic processes - pulsating and steady - with a transi-
tion zone between them. A comparison of data obtained at similar gas velocity

of 57.0 jv/sec shows fluctuations of the mass transfer coefficient caused by in-
creased taper of the diffuser. Further tests concerned the selective determina-
tion of the ammonia content in liquid (film) on the diffuser surface and in dif-
fused liquld, ouspended in the gas flow. It was established that there is an
equal amount of ammonia in both. At high ratios of kthe content of ammonia in

the film on the diffuser walls decreased by 5 The mass transfer occurs
primarily during the formation of the two-phase flow which is confirmed by JDhn-
stone (Aef. 2). Therefore, power losses caused by the friction-betwoon the flow
and the liquid film are of no consequence and decrease at growing taper of tlle'
diffuser. At high ratios of il when friction losses determine the. full resiist-
ance of the apparatus, an increased taper of the diffuser leads to an intens:fied
mass transfer* whereas the power consumption remains unchanged. Tube No. 1 was
subjeoted to three series of tests on the influence of the absolute absorption
volume V behind the Venturi tube on mass transfer and extraction coefficientE.
The vj#locity of the air-ammonia mixture wag V - 72.5 nVsec constant, the irriga-
tion fluctuated between 0.67 - 4.90 I/nm-. The volume of absorption was

Bekwe the Revolution them was uo organized anti-cancer ca n in the Ukraine.
After the revolution special oncological clinics were introdu=the Ukraine and
a prophylactic trend developed in the struggle against cancer. After the war the
network of oncological institutions was enlarged, many auti-cancer measures were
adopt I on a state scale, and the levels of diagnosis and therapy of malignant
d*wa were raised. Statistics of a series of oncological institutions in the Ukraine
show that 874% of all cancers are situated in the sitin, I stomach, uterus and
mammary gland. In males 70.90% of all cancers were in t stomach, oral cavity
and skin; in liviales 54.o% of ail cancers were in the reproductive organs and
mammary gland. Cancer of the skin is more frequent in the south of the republic.
Breast carcinoma is more frequent in the urban population and cancer of the
k-male reproductive organs in the rural population. In the last years the frequency
of cancer of the uterus has decreased ai that of the lung has increased. There is
also an increme in the average. age of those drng from cancer. In some towns
cancer mortality has decreasid' as compared with 1"0. The number of operable
cam hu increased; this is due to a better diagnosis. Unsatisfactory (mcological
training of the medical staff and the patient's ignorance of the nature of his condi-
tion are the reason for neglected cases. Efficacy of cancer treatment has increased.
Further iiinpio.e.m. t in the anti-cancer campaign requires developnient of onco-
lo&W tervice, introduction of num prophylactic emminations, and outpatient

TITLE: Repairing Castings with Self-Setting Plasties
PERIODICA1: Liteynoye proizvodstvo, 1959, lir 9, pp 43-44 USSR)
ABSTRACT: Defects of castings appearing in the form of gras-
blisters and blowholes, both in ferrous and nonfer-
fous metal castings, are usually repaired by Iras-
or-electric welding, filling by liquid metal, or 4y
metallization with powdered metal. Howeverv EL11
these methods contain a number of shortcomings. A
group of engineers at the Kharlkov Plant of Dental
5urgery Materialeye.G. Aronov, V.D. Bezuglyy, A.A.
Shturmar, 1-.N. Mats, M.Ya. Solomonov, engineers of
the Kharlkov Tractor Works L.P.Seleznev, A.A. Fldnyy,
B,A. 6evruk, and the Senior Teacher of Kb*?!'.. I. T.
Garkusha have proposed a method of closing ap Lhe
holes in castings by means of self-setting plastic
mass AST-T. The mass o3nsistB of a powder and a
liquid. The powder is " emulsive polymethy1meta-
crilat with benzolle pexoxide; the liquid Is methyl-

has the following p~ysico-mechanical properties~
heat-stability 90 (according to Martens); rd-
ness - 13-19 11 specific cm
gravity2- 1.18 9T/
specific tenacity 8 to 14 kg/cm tensil streu~:th
- 450 to 500 kg/cm bending strength - 800-'40Q~
limit of pressure strength - 1200 to 1600 kg,/cm'.
The filling process oomprises the follcwing ope:-a-
tions. First of all, -the holes are thoyoughly
ned with the liquid A'OT-T3 the m;iss is prepared by
mixing the powder with the liquid in a glass, fa-i-
ence or aluminum vessel, whereupon, it should stay
5 to 10 minutes until it swells. The ratio powder.-
liquid is 2:1 by weight for large holes, and !:I for
small ones. After the filling, the repaired p1sice
be isolated from the air by means of ce.1lophane. Du-
ring the filling process, the castings should have
a room tempeiatare. The length of time requir9d for
consolidation of the mass is '10-15 minmes. Ihs ap-
plication of this method was recognized and accepted
by a number of works, such as Kharlkov T.rar-tor lvqorks,
