MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Logistics
SUBJECT Encapsulation Room,.
25X1A9a
25X1A6b
I called regarding subject
25X1A6b safety problem. He advises that this room is in
25X1A6b under the control of Commo Security. T e
function is to plasticize code books, one-time pads, etc.,
apparently for shipping and for caching. The plasticizing
process gives off noxious fumes. The room is now considered
too small (7' x 10') but does contain a relatively recently
installed sprinkler system and light commercial hood.
The safety investigation was triggered by an
employee complaint of noxious odors. Safety Branch has
utilized not only an OMS representative but also a Dept. of
Labor, OHSA chemist/hygienist. The latter's report is expected
soon.
25X1A6b An apparent possible solution is relocation
to a larger area now used for storage.
Undoubtedly the new area would require a large commercial
hood, a sprinkler system, new 11 htin , and possibly a special
air conditioning system. Mr. stated that he would
25X1A9a advise when a final recommendation is prepared to give advance
notice of facility impact.
