SUBJECT: SAFE Uninterruptible Power Systems Floor Space
Requirement
Since the Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS) load
requirement was increased to 1800 kVA 60 Hz and 350 kVA 400Hz.
the adequacy of the floor space allotted for UPS equipment
was reevaluated. It was determined that the 3700 sq. ft. area
which was initially reserved for the UPS equipment is still
adequate, however, the considerations and assumptions which
led to this conclusion should be noted.
1. The area was evaluated using the space
requirements of UPS equipment presently in the
building. This equipment was supplied by two
different vendors. Whether or not the equipment
of other vendors will fit in this area is not
known. It can only be stated that there is,
presently on the market, equipment which can be
installed in the limited space available. It
has been assummed that the UPS Request For
Proposal will require the prospective vendors to
arrange the equipment to fit within the allotted
space,
2. It has been assumed that the bulk of the
output switchgear will be located outside the
UPS room.
3. The 3700 sq. ft. area allotted is extremely
"tight". Any increase in power requirements will
generate 4n.: immedia;,e need for more space (unless
advances in UPS technology significantly reduce equip-
ment size).., .I-t-, .as_.been assummed any increase in
load will be accompanied by an increase in floor
space for UP$ equipment.
