C. SUBJECT: Active Duty Training for Air Force TO: Assistant Vice Chief of Staff for Reserve Forces Headquarters, United States Air Force Washington 25? D. C. 1. During the period that the 25X1C has been organized, the assigned reserve o cers and airmen have sought short tours of active duty for training with various components of the Air Force. In Fiscal Year 1953 a number of officers of this organization applied for such duty, but only a few were accepted because of fund limitations. So far in Fiscal Year 1951 it appears that this condition will remain unchanged. 2. Due to the nature of the activities of the members of this Squadron and their dealings with components of the Department of Defense in the Washington area, it is evident that both the Air Force and the Central Intelligence Agency would benefit greatly from their training in the active Air Force establishment, in such specialized fields as intelligence, transportation, operations, supply, and management. If such a training program is approved, it is anticipated that members will be made available for duty with units, including those at wing, numbered Air Force and major command level, where their particular background 25X1C and service can be best utilized. The re en of the Mik"i However, approximately three hundred Air Force reserve officers are employees of the Central Intelligence Agency. If an aggressive active duty training program were established, it is believed that a greater number of these reservists would become interested in the training activities of this Squadron. If they could be assured of active duty training, this incentive would enable the Unit to increase the effectiveness and scope of its weekly training program. 4. The future and present status of the has 25X1C been discussed with the Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations, and other staff personnel within Headquarters, U. S. Air Force, on an informal basis. In view of the factors as indicated above it is requested that $60,000 be made available for use by the o provide for active duty pay and allowances, including rave costs, for eligible members of this Squadron who apply for active duty training periods during Fiscal Year 1954.
