The NSC Policy Review Committee, in accordance with Executive
Order 12036 (1-202), has established the attached National Intelligence
Topics as requirements and priorities for use by the Intelligence agencies of
the US Government. These topics of Basic Long-term Interest and of Current
Interest were approved by the White House on 5 August 1978. They will be
reviewed and updated periodically.
The National Intelligence Topics of Long-term Interest are intended to
guide the development of Intelligence Community capabilities for collection,
research, and analysis over the longer term. The purpose of the Topics of
Current Interest is to inform intelligence collectors and producers of the needs
of senior policymakers for information and analysis over the next six to nine
months. It is recognized that these lists do not embrace all requirements for
collection and production for which the Intelligence Community is
responsible.
