U.S.-Asia Institute
- According to Bill Sherman, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for North
Asia, and Gaston Sigur, NSC, the U.S.-Asia Institute has no substantive
or contractual relationship with the Department of State or the Department ~(,rallu
of Defense.
- This group, like other public groups, has arranged to use State Department
facilities on occasion for meetings. Mike Armacost was a speaker at
one of these meetings.
- A quick check in the library shows that the U.S.-Asia Institute is
located on 20th Street downtown,, was founded in 1979, has a staff of 6,
and has as a Director Ester G. Kee. T h~ S.,5a1ju.a
- The Institute prom U.S.-Asian understanding, etc., and gives awards
to young ] Ameri can Asian kids.
