1. I have attached the interim CORE submissions from the other
directorates for your information. We have a meeting scheduled 14 September
1981 at 1500 to decide which projects are worthy of further evaluation.
The quality of the submissions, as you will notice, varies; and while
none of us is enthusiastic about giving up resources, the DCI is quite
serious about pursuing this program. Further, given the expanded pro-
grams we all wish to pursue and the worsening budget situation, we might
well be able to use CORE to find room to fit more of the program in
the Agency's budget. (C)
2. Therefore, in preparation for next Monday's meeting, I would
appreciate your giving further thought as you feel appropriate to come
up with additional candidates. At that meeting we should identify
acceptable candidates to pursue and be able to discuss a methodology
to adequately evaluate their cost savings and impact on Agency opera-
tions. (C)
