Approved For Release 2006/01/12 : CIA-RDP86B00985ROQQ,100040025-1 6 August 1973 Coordinator for Cooperative Programs SUBJECT: Critique of Summer Intern Program 1. I found the briefings given as part of the Summer Intern Program to be very worthwhile in that they give the interns entering on duty for the first time an opportunity to get a good general understanding of the organization and functioning of the Agency. The addition of a briefing on the Career Training Program fairly early in the schedule was a definite plus in that this allows those interns interested in this program to pursue it further during the remainder of the summer. As far as any suggestions for improving the briefing schedule are concerned, I cannot think of any beside the perennial one of including a briefing by a representative from the DDO. However, such a briefing should be included only if it would be of the same quality and nature as the others on the schedule. The idea of having a speaker from the DDO merely to have him on the schedule would not be very meaningful. 2. I do not believe I can discuss very meaningfully the processing of applications and entrance on duty since this is my second summer in the program, and,,thus, I have not encountered any of the potential problems this year connected with processing in. I did notice, though, that the recruiters came to SAIS several months earlier this past winter than they did the previous one. Apparently, this earlier start in the recruiting and application process has been effective since I did not hear of anyone having the problems this year that some of us encountered in 1972. 3. I have only the highest praise for my Division and Branch Chiefs. They treated me, as they apparently treat everyone within this division, as an individual and recognized my particular talents, capabilities, and limits. I was given a meaningful assignment within my branch identical in scope and responsibility to that of the regular staff employees. I feel that I was fully accepted by everyone within the division. My summer here has been most enjoyable and rewarding. 4. As far as my future plans are concerned, I feel fortunate in that I have received several very good employment offers, one of which is with the Agency. However, I have decided to accept an offer with a company outside of the Agency. STAT 5. I want to thank you, 1 for the time, effort, and considere- tJ.on which you have given me over the past two years. I have come to know you as an effective and trustworthy person who can be relied upon to clear up anYSTAT of the various administrative problems which can and do arise. I value the opportunity that I have had to know you. Thank you. Approved For Release 2006/01/12 : CIA-9
