Approved For ReJgase 2006/01/12: CIA-RDP86B00985RQ90100040030-5 6 August 1973 MEMORANDUM FOR: Coordinator for Cooperative Programs SUBJECT Critique of Summer Intern Program As a returning intern, I would first like to say that I was very pleased to have the opportunity to return to the Agency. I feel that I now have a better understanding of the purpose and functioning of CIA and a better background for making a career choice. To repeat a few comments from my previous critique, I think that the Summer Intern Program is very worthwhile in that it allows a student to take part in regular Agency work with full clearances and regular em- ployee status. I feel that there were several improvements in this summer's program over last year's. Although I did not have to go through the processing myself, other interns appeared to have had less trouble than we did last summer. This year's roster of speakers was more prestigious and the scheduling of morning briefings was more convenient. As for my own assignment, my projects were not as interesting as last year's, however they did give me a feel for the more routine aspects of the work and kept me busy, which was to my liking. In the way of suggestions for improving the program, I must again bring up the fact that DDO was not represented. While we did receive bits and pieces of information from other speakers, I feel a general briefing from someone in that Directorate would round out our program. The speakers might also be reminded that they are not generally speaking to a group familiar with the departmental abbreviations. Lastly, if the idea of asking Agency employees if they would like to house interns for the summer materializes, I think it would be very helpful. Even if. it were for a short period, a week or two, it would make the relocation process easier, less expensive, and more pleasant. As I will also be teaching full-time, I will be in school for the next two academic years including the summer session of 1974. Therefore, I am not requesting to be considered for an intern- ship next summer. I would like to defer my decision on re- STAT questing to return to CIA as a staff employee until I have my degree.
