CONFIDENTIAL
TO:
1. The most meaningful and deserved comment pertaining to my summer's
internship with CIA regards its most valuable asset - its. employees. Constant
academic skepticism of governmental activities made me wary of what to
expect. I was completely reassured by the liberal, apolitical, professional
attitudes.maintained within the Agency. Even this bit of praise cannot
fully express my reassurance in Governmental actions. My branch associates
and whoever else I had occasion to deal with were consistently friendly
and more than willing to go out of their way to offer timely advise and
encouragement. Never was anyone too busy to lend a helping hand.
2. When first informed that my responsibilities would be identical
to those of the staff employees, I failed to understand. its importance.
Only now after actively engaging in routine branch activities can I fully
aapreciate its meaning. This trust, though closely scrutinized at every
turn, has made a lasting impression upon me because significant aspects of
the intelligence community were entrusted me. I only hope this trust has
been justified through the results of my labor.
3. My training likewise deserves much praise. The on-the-job training
allowed me to advance at an adequate pace with never too much to assimilate
at a given time. Training in the use of all-source reference materials
proved invaluable. I-was quite impressed by the breadth and depth of
available materials, both unclassified and classified.
4+. I can make only one complaint in relation to my duties: they
pertained almost solely to one project - the IMP. The time spent on all
other projects was insignificant (less than ten percent of my time). I
do not mean to imply boredom or a feeling of minimal accomplishment in
regard to my duties, but more varied duties would have provided a
fuller background into the branch's other operations.
5. The schedule of briefings organized to help orient the summer interns
should be considered a success. The omissions of OBGI and OER while
including the remaining offices of DDI were'a disappointment, not from
the standpoint of my association with OBGI, but from the feeling that
two integral parts of an awesome puzzle were unaccounted for. Short
general background briefings into DDI, DDS and T, and especially DDP
would no doubt have proven informative had time been available.

6. Briefly may I make a suggestion. With the perennial apprehension
that greets employees in the D.C. area, information regarding types,
costs, and availability of housing, the weather, and their jobs would
prove beneficial. A short informational letter ip this regard should suffice.
7. In conclusion, this summer has been a valuable experience. Insights
into the intelligence community and the Bureaucracy have given me a
fuller appreciation of behind-the-scenes activities. I wish to express
my sincere gratitude to you for making it possible.
