MEMORANDUM FOR:
'Coordinator for Academic Relations, NFAC
Executive Officer, OSR
SUBJECT: OSR Academic Consultants
REFERENCE: Correspondence dated 23 June 1981, same subject
The five consultants listed in the reference (attached) each meet
with OSR personnel about six days a year as part of their role in the
DCI's Military Economic Advisory Panel. The discussions revolve around
military, economic and political factors that affect Soviet defense
spending, and, conversely, the effect of that spending on the Soviet
economy.

academics w wrho are members of the Military-Economic Advisory Panel:
niversity of California at Berkley

- University of Indiana
25X1
- Howard University
2. The Office had no substantive ad hoc consultations, for which a
fee was paid, with academics not under contract between l January 1980
to the present. A wild guess as to uncompensated consultations would be
half a dozen.
3. OSR still has on its rolls a Scholar-in-Residence,

Please give me a list of those
academics under contract as consultants to
your Office as of 1 June 1981. I shall
need the name of the individual and the'
institution where he(she) is employed. I
also need the number of substantive ad hoc
consultations, for which a fee was paid,
that your people had with academics not
under contract during the period 1 January
1980 to the present. I do not need names
in the latter case. (Any estimate, however
wild, of the number of ad hoc consultations
for which no compensation was involved,
would be appreciated.) Finally, I really
need your contribution in Rm 1E4816 by
noon on 24 June. Thanks.
