SUBJECT: Senior Review Panel Recruitment Possibilities
Our purpose was to solicit
suggestions for a possible replacement for I- because he operates
a fellowship program he is unusually well informed
regarding individuals of the kind we are interested in. We were very
conscious of the restraints imposed upon us by circumstances, notably,
the need to find candidates who might accept the position with only
about three months notice and the requirement that the candidate be a
senior scholar capable of holding his own with the other members of the
panel. Hence we were inclined to concentrate upon academics who have
recently retired or are known or believed to be on the point of retirement,
though we accepted some exceptions to these conditions, as will be seen.
