For reasons unknown - but which your organi-
zation might perhaps investigate - your letter of
20 December reached me only on 10 January. I hasten
to respond and to say, most regretfully, that I shall
not (and cannot) be free on 15 February to attend
your meeting as I should otherwise have been most
pleased to do. The meeting sounds both important and
useful.
Please accept, with my regrets, every best
wish for the new year.
Yours sincerely,
Hanna Holborn Gray

The Director

Thank you for your thoughtfulness in inviting me to
come to the Agency for a day in February. Unfortunately,
that is a day in which I will be off in Florida delivering
yet another speech of questionable value both to the giver
and the receiver!
I watch with interest your efforts at the CIA,
interest heightened by recognizing how much you accomplished
during your stay at the Naval War College.
Sincerely,
