Approved For Relela?d : CI~ ~ 6bi&4W&U0400050004-0 16 October 1978 MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD SUBJECT; Lecture at Morehead State University, Kentucky At the request. of our Academic Affairs Office I traveled to Morehead State University on 4 October to give a lecture to a national security seminar. The topic was "The CIA and National Security." The national security class is run by the military science department in the university. I felt that it was a worthwhile undertaking on the agency's part. There is a very active military science program at the university. In fact, it is staffed by five field grade army officers plus a couple of captains and a number of NCOs. On a non-compulsory basis they have about 250 students in ROTC. The national security class, also elective, had about 60 students. In short, they seem to have quite a viable and serious program. On a personal note, their hospitality was first- rate. They had a car waiting at the Lexington airport to take me on the 1 1/2 hour drive to Morehead. They had a room reserved for me in the Student Center, took me out to dinner on Wednesday night and to breakfast Thursday morning. After my lecture I was given lunch with a number of the deans, faculty, and some students. I was asked to give about a 15-minute synopsis of my lecture at the conclusion of the lunch. The trip itself is not very exciting. The 1 1/2 hour drive from the airport to Morehead is on an inter- state highway so the scenery is not very spectacular. The town of Morehead is not very exciting and the uni- versity, while pleasant, is also unexceptional for a small school. In short, while I think it would be worth- while to send someone if they asked again next year, r would not be interested in repeating the trip.
