This is to inform you that we STILL very favorably remember
your efforts in briefing us on your agency's policy on Friday,
January 20. We very much appreciated that effort and also
the patience and time you took to deal with our questions. In
particular I am grateful to you for having assisted in giving my
students a more realistic view of the world of international affairs.
When all the travel courses returned to campus before the
beginning of February, a student in each course was asked to
write a resume of what transpired to be published in the campus
newspaper. It is interesting that our student chose to con-
centrate on our visit to the CIA. I am enclosing for your con-
sideration the article which he wrote. I hope that there is
nothing in the article which needlessly identifies your instal-
lation or functions, but in addition to wanting you to know
about the article, I think you should see it if that shoudl be
the case. Specifically, I hope you will not find it necessary
to change your bus stop in Rosalyn: I also hope that you will
be impressed with our student's sense of humor, if not with all
his references to the KGB and James Bond.
We will favorably remember your efforts on our behalf for
a long time, and we hope that we might have the privilege of
hearing you again.
Very sincerely,
Robert G. Leh

r'hank you for your letter of December 29. I note that there
is a change with regard to the arrangements, since the bus will
pick us up at the Hotel John Kilpen instead of Pennsylvania Ave-
nue near ~.i'ederal Triangle. tjJe will wait for the bus at the hotel
and expect it at 8:30 a.m. The plans for our visit to the Central
Intellir:Ence Agency sound exciting, and I look forward. to their
fulfillment.
?,de would expect to leave the A#;ency Headquarters building at
12:15, by your bus, for Rosslyn and we will proceed from there to
our afternoon schedule.
I am including herewith a list of names, dates of birth, and
social security numbers of the students in our group.

Dear Professor Leh:
36D
This is to confirm the arrangements that you and I have made for
the visit by your group of students to CIA Headquarters on the morning
of January 20. I have made arrangements for a bus to pick up your
group at the Hotel John Kilpen, 2310 Ashmead Place N.W., at 8:30 a.m.
This will leave sufficient time for travel to the Agency and for
processing at our reception office, STATINTL
After my own introductory remarks, will address you and
the students beginning at 10:00 a.m. After his presentation, which
with a question period should last about an hour, I have arranged for
a short tour of our Operations Center. A senior Agency Africa special-
ist will also speak to the group on the political dynamics in southern
Africa.
After these presentations, I have arranged for a bus to return
your group to the Metro station in Rosslyn. The bus will leave the
Agency Headquarters building at 12:15 p.m., and the trip should take
approximately 20 minutes. There are a number of restaurants in the
Rosslyn area, and the Metro gives you easy access to a number of down-
town locations.
I will need from you as.soon as possible a list of the students
who plan to participate, along with their dates of birth. Thank you
very much. I am looking forward to your visit,

Thank you for your letter of September 21. I would like very
much to have my students visit the CIA Operations Center in January,
to hear speaking about the role of intelligence in support
of the foreign po icy-making process, and to hear a briefing by agency
regional specialists. We will be studying the problems of southern
Africa and the Middle East, and therefore my preference in regional
specialists would involve either Africa, the Middle East, or both.
With regard to days, we have no programs scheduled. for Monday,
January, 16, Friday .x January 20 so far, or, for half a day Wednesday,
"ranuary l9. _T -could work in a briefing also early on Thursday,
January 19, but it might be difficult to do so since we will be having
other briefings from 11:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., in downtown Washing-
ton.
If you. want to call me, my telephone number is (309) 5563030;
I am in my office from about 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., except for
the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday,
and 1:10 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday; and the noon
hour, all days. I am sure that we would be able to make any final
arrangements by telephone.
Thank you again for your letter, and I look forward to hearing
from you.
