MEMORANDUM FOR: Members of COMPUSEC Technology Working Group

SUBJECT: COMPUSEC Technology Working Group Meeting -
13 September 1984
1. The next meeting of the COMPUSEC Technology Working Group will be held
on 13 September 1984 from - Af's
agenda
2. At the previous meeting on 14 August 1984, presentations commenced
with a FBI question and answer session and a brief description of FBI system
security features. The FBI representative offered a white paper on the FBI
system but was advised that the briefing and discussions would satisfy the
group's needs. Next, hand geometry technology used for access and
authentication within the Navy was briefed by the Naval Intelligence Lommand
representative. Three CIA representatives from the Information Systems
Security Group then followed with informative briefings on CIA's Information
Systems Security Officers' manual, auditing initiatives, and password system.
In a continued search for current technologies to apply against Community
requirements for improved security in authentication, labelling, and
accountability, members were briefed on the LANL common file system, FEMA's
central locator system, and the Space Transportation System Security program.
At the chairman's request for erstandin9 of the Comnmunity
critical systems, ICS principal, expanded on the hardware and
software configurations of the critical systems against which identified
technologies will be applied. The group's attention was then directed toward
a discussion of three security modes. as defined in DCID 1/16-(i.e., dedicated,
system high, and compartmented) and candidate safeguards required to support
each. Following these discussions jrecommended that he revise his
proposed draft position (5) based on discussions of the day and provide a new
draft to the members for comment prior to the September meeting.

information on the following topics at the September meeting. The group was
asked to confine their research to products that were compatible with critical
systems hardware and software.
Briefings were also requested for the September meeting from the following
working group members or their representatives on these related programs:

3. Since the briefings and discussions for the September meeting may be
classified, members whose clearances are not on file at the 1C Staff are
