MEMORANDUM FOR: SIG(I) Committee on Intelligence Priorities
SUBJECT: Reporting on NIT-Related Information Gaps
REFERENCE: National Intelligence Topics of Current Interest, (FY 85)

1. The topics listed in the referenced document were approved at the 31 July 1984
SIG(I) Committee meeting for dissemination as guidance to intelligence producers. At
that meeting, the Committee also approved a schedule of NIT-associated actions for the
next fiscal year. One of the actions to be completed by the Intelliaence Producers
Council (IPC) is the identification of significant information
Community from fully responding to NIT questions in the near term. The purpose of this
memorandum is to alert you to those NITs for which a full response will not be possible
(see Attachment) and to describe proposed actions to stimulate or initiate corrective
measures. F7
2. In an effort to reduce noted in the attachment, the DDCI plans
to disseminate the significant In ormation or Community collection
requirements and operations. In addition, he will request that the appropriate
Community entities (e.g., DCID 1/2 Committee, COMIREX, SIGINT Committee, Human
Resources Committee) provide the Intelligence Producers Council with an accounting of
ongoing collection activities or actions newly taken that address such gaps. The IPC, in
turn, will prepare a status report for the SIG(I) Committee. F7
