NIE 50-83: ASEAN: Prospects for the
1980s and Implications for US Po icy,
date June 1983
1. The Panel considers this revised draft--in both
organization and substance--a monumental improvement over
its predecessor on which we commented to you on 3 June 1983.
2. We believe that it will be a helpful paper at
policy-levels and recommend that you approve it for inter-
agency coordination.
3. Future work on ASEAN might well deal, however, more
intensively with the region's economic potential and prospects
for expanding existing government and private enterprise
links with the US, now off to a promising start.
