The list is organized geographically by economic region, with a subdivision for each Union Republic, Oblast, Kray, or other regional division. The capacity or individual powerplants was estimated on the basis of all information available as or 31 March 19751 Note: This research project was prepared by the Resources Branch, USSR/Eastern Europe Division, Office of Economic Research, CIA, and has not been coordinated with other intelligence components. Ilowe;,..r, the following factors were also taken into consideration: total new capacity installed in lie USSR during the year; capacity at old powerplants taken out of service in the USSR during the year; infornmtion on new small generating units put into operation in remote areas; and new high voltage transmission lines for exchange of electric power between regions. The list is presented in such a form that it can be revised and updated through 1980, as new in becomes available and as new capacity is put operation. An index listing powerplants alphabetically by the official Sovie'r, designation or by town name is also appended.
