Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2011/11/09: CIA-RDP87-00058R000300590024-3 13 JUN 1980 STAT MEINDRANDUM FOR: Deputy Director for Administration Chief, Information Services Staff STAT STAT STAT STAT SUBJECT: ISS Weekly Report (5-11 June 1980) Classification Review Division Mr. Lawrence Pickering, Chief of the Systematic Review Office, State Department, met with a CRD representative for a joint review of the Foreign Relations of the United States series, Volume VII, China and Korea, 1951. Once again, documents of interest to the Agency which had not previously been sent to us for review were found. W. Pickering requested that CRD run a name check on foreign names mentioned in the series to obtain as much information as possible prior to completing the necessary review by his office. This is the first such request we have received from the State Department asking us to run name traces from FRUS documents. Because Mr. Pickering is attempting to be so cooperative with us in identifying our information in FRUS series, we are looking positively at this unusual request. A CRD representative met with Chief, Sand discussed the classification downgrading of SE disseminated intelligence reports. It was agreed that prior to downgrading any Sop Secret intelligence dissemination, the CRD reviewer will coordinate this action with SEF Regulations Control Division RCD processed 26 regulatory issuances and responded to many requests for information about past issuances. RMD has forwarded to the National Security Council a package containing White House originated documents which were previously maintained in California for use by former President Nixon. The U.S. Marine Corps forwarded the unopened White House documents as well as CIA and other agency material directly to the CIA. The other material is non-record containing no meaningful annotations and will be destroyed. which are second-party COMINT maintained by OCR and very rarely re erence . RMD requested authority to destroy 800 cubic feet of Site preparation for RANTS hardware started at the Records Center on 9 June 1980. Information and Privacy Division A separate report is attached. The Department of Defense published its new FOIA regula- tions in the 29 April 1980 issue of the Federal Register. In some respects, the DoD's policies and procedures are very similar to those of this Agency. They are much more liberal, however, when it comes to fees. Some exceptions are permitted, but as a general rule fees are always waived whenever a request is received from the media or from a nonprofit public interest group. Moreover, if the charge for any request amounts to less than $30, the fees are automatically waived. (The corresponding figure for the CIA is $4.) The DoD regulation states that "Normally, collection of charges and fees will be made in advance of rendering the service," but prepay- ment is not required if the requester has given assurance of his willingness to pay the charges.
