SUBJECT: Pages Resubmitted by State for its Draft
FRUS, 1955-57, Volume VIII, Near East
1. Attached are ANNEXES 1 and 2 containing pages from Foreign Relations
of the United States, 1955-57, Volume VIII, Near East that the estate peL art-
ment~has resubmiT~ to replace pages missing or illegible in its original
submission for CIA review. CRD, on 24 April 1984, had sent the DO ANNEXES A
through E containing material of interest to the DO called from State's
original submission. (U)
2. As with the 24 April package for the DO, the Classification Review
Division has reviewed each page in ANNEXES 1 and 2. For ANNEX 1, which
contains routine FRUS material, a worksheet details CRD's recommendations
for deletions and e justification for them under E.O. 12356. (U)
3. ANNEX 2 contains only codeworded messages (ALPHA, MIDMILL, OMEGA,
and GN!4A). We repeat our request of 24 April that the DO determine whether
to hold back all these documents from declassification because they deal
with covert operations in which the CIA participated in planning or operation.
In case the DO decides not to do so, a worksheet is attached suggesting
deletions page by page. (U)
4. We request your overall review as soon as possible in order that we
may return this material to the State Department. Please return the draft
pages to CRD, along with your comments. (U)
