Volume VIII, 1955-57, Near East
1. Attached in ANNEX A are 12 complete or partial NIE/SNIE texts
taken from the draft of the Department of State's Foreign Relations of
the United States; Volume VIII, 1955-57, Near East. Other, non-estimate,
documents in e RUS do not appear to concern the DI. (U)
2. CRD has reviewed the texts and compiled Worksheet A, listing
present classification status and recommendations for action on each. (U)
3. Also attached is ANNEX B, listing NIE/SNIE title citations in
the body and footnotes of Volume VIII. No texts are involved. To deter-
mine the releaseability of the various titles, CRD has reviewed the full
text of each NIE/SNIE cited. Worksheet B lists the title citations by
page and recommends a classification action on each citation. (U)
4. We request your overall review as soon as possible in-order that
we may return this material to the State Department. Please return the
draft pages to CRD, along with your comments. CRD may later have supple-
mentary pages from this volume, of FRUS for your review, because illegible
pages are in the process of being resubmitted by State Department to CRD.

5. We have attached only those pages from the FRUS that we had
problems with; the entire volume'of 3,200 pages is available for your
review if you desire. The documents are those judged of interest; a
package of other documents has already been forwarded to the DO. (U)
