In response to Mr.'Bardach's letter of 24 October 1984, we have completed
our review of the manuscript for an accelerated volume on Vietnam, 1958-60, in
the Foreign Relations of the United States series.
We are returning the manuscript and a listing of our recommended deletions
together with the reasons for deletion under Executive Order 12356. The
passages or pages to be deleted are bracketed in the manuscript. The
substitution of CIA for CAS when Agency involvement is acknowledged is
suggested in the interest of consistency.
We note that document Number 18 from Chapter III is missing. We would
like to review it prior to release.
This letter provides CIA clearance for this volume contingent upon your
assurance that there is no additional material intended for publication in it
that is of interest to CIA and not yet reviewed by us.
