technical, fire safety, and handicap compliance. The design
should be complete to allow for a construction contract award
by GSA in late FY-85 or early FY-86.
d. Parking at Ames, Key, and Chamber of Commerce Buildings
Effective 1 July 1984, the Agency assumed the financial respon-
sibility for the leasing of the parking areas at the Ames, Key,
and Chamber of Commerce Buildings. This was done in order to
enhance the security and safety of personnel housed in these
buildings. The leases were negotiated with representatives of
the Charles E. Smith Management Company for the Key Building
and with representatives of the Dominion Ma t Company for
the Ames and Chamber of Commerce Buildings. aQ_em~
As a part of these security enhancements, contracts have
been awarded for the installation of closed circuit television
cameras, parking access control arms, and guard booths at all
three installations. These security enhancements will afford a
strictive control of vehicle access to these buildings.
In addition, Procurement Division is negotiating a contract
for guards to be located at each building during the hours of
high occupancy from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.
These guards will be able to better control vehicles entering
It is anticipated that all of the access controls and the
guards will be in place during the month of September 1984.
e. 2430 E Street - Representatives from Lee-Thorp
Consulting Engineers, OTS/LOGS, and RECD met on 5 July 1984 for
a walk-through of all HVAC systems within the South, Central,
and East Buildings. A cursory examination of the systems
turned up minor deficiencies such as closed fire dampers and
leaking steam valves that were having major impacts on the
cooling of the buildings. Following this initial
familiarization with the HVAC systems, Lee-Thorp will begin an
in-depth study of all systems and prepare a package of required
repairs and corres ondin cost estimates.
